[edit] Hello, I'm AntiDionysius. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to Tacky's Revolt seemed less than neutral and has been removed. If you think this was a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Points to note:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. FifthFive (talk) 17:16, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
Edit warring, disruptive editing
[edit]Good afternoon,
It seems you have now reverted a number of rollbacks of your edits to Afro-Jamaicans, meaning you have fallen afoul of WP:3RR. I notice you have made similar edits to Afro-Caribbeans. These edits seem intended to push your own personal viewpoint and appear to be WP:UNDUE, based on older sources and not supported by current scholarship.
The repeated editing and reversion of these articles might be seen as disruptive, in addition to any edit warring that is occurring.
Best practice would be to avoid simply reverting to your preferred edits, even if you believe they are correct, when multiple editors have reverted them already. This usually indicates you do not have consensus for these edits and so should seek consensus for them on the relevant talk page. Lewisguile (talk) 17:24, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
- Our primary concern as contributors is above all else, truth; which must always take precedence over consensus. 2A02:6B67:D965:700:8053:C17A:29C3:ABD3 (talk) 17:38, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, that's not how Wikipedia works. We base our articles on consensus, using reliable sources (ideally scholarly). Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a forum for opinion, nor does Wikipedia right great wrongs. Your edits likely constitute original research and are likely to be deleted again. Since your bold edits have been reverted, best practice is to engage in the WP:BRD process. Please start a discussion on the talk page to get consensus for your edits there. - I have incorporated some of your prior edits into the Afro-Caribbean page in a way that better reflects consensus. I.e., to say that West Indian Creole can refer both to all Caribbean people in general, as well as Afro-Caribbeans specifically. I think this is a fair compromise.
- There are more serious issues with the Afro-Jamaicans article, which I will get around to in due course. As these pages are supposed to cover people of African descent specifically, and not other groups, we should be sure to maintain the scope of the articles and not turn them into WP:COATRACKs.
- My first suggestion to this end would be to move other designations, such as Taino Jamaican, out of the lede. Some Afro-Jamaicans have Taino heritage, but Taino Jamaicans are their own distinct ethnic group and are better covered in their own article. It would be equally incorrect to label Afro-Caribbeans "European Caribbeans" just because some have European heritage. Similarly, as the page is called Afro-Jamaicans, that should be the primary name we use in the article and in headers, infoboxes, etc.
- You can request a page move if you think the page is improperly titled and should be called Jamaican Creoles or similar. Ditto for Afro-Caribbeans. See Wikipedia:Moving a page. Lewisguile (talk) 11:31, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
