Wikipedia, as an instrument of demystification, is fundamentally a force for evil. It seeks not merely to disseminate purportedly truth-corresponding accounts of lived experiences and phenomena, but to do so deliberately in the most arid, castrated, depersonalised fashion imaginable; consciously assuming the chiffon pretense of objectivity while annihilating the richness, character and wonder of its subjects. Its singular narratives [if they can even be said to be narratives] justified as necessitated by neutrality elide the incontrovertibly perspectival nature of knowledge acquisition and representation. At their worst, its articles are caricatures of the indescribable; at their best, totalizing monstrosities misrepresenting in graceless precision the irreducibly mysterious essence of the underlying reality.
"That’s what a monoculture is. It’s everywhere, and it’s all the same. And it takes up alien cultures and digests them and shits them out in a homogeneous building-block shape that fits seamlessly into the vast blank wall of the monoculture. This is the future. This is what we built. This is what we wanted. It must have been. Because we all had a fucking choice, didn’t we?" The more we grow and spread encyclopaedias, the more power and control they acquire and ever further they encroach upon our lives as they should be lived. Close off your screens, and dance with me into the luscious freedom of undocumented existence.
