Kaylee Blaney
[edit]Kaylee Blaney is a Scottish singer-songwriter and guitarist known for her introspective lyrics and deep and soulful vocals. Emerging from Scotland’s vibrant independent music scene, Blaney has gained attention as an up-and-coming artist blending alternative rock influences with a deeply personal lyrical style.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Kaylee Blaney began playing guitar as a child, developing a passion for music from an early age. Her formal journey into music deepened when she attended Riverside Music College, a well-regarded institution in Scotland for music education. While studying there, she was introduced to various aspects of music theory, performance, and production. It was during this time that she began to explore singing more seriously, taking vocal lessons both within and outside of the college.
Initially writing songs as a personal outlet, Blaney soon began recording her own material. With the encouragement and resources provided by the college, her songwriting evolved from a hobby into professional studio work.
Music Career
[edit]While at Riverside, Blaney also worked within a band formed through the college, performing live in Glasgow. The group covered a range of influential artists including Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, and Elliott Smith, experiences that would help shape her vocal style and artistic direction.
Through her involvement in the college’s music scene, Blaney began collaborating with Gnaws, a two-member band who were also studying at Riverside. Together, they have confirmed the upcoming release of five songs, including her debut single. Although no official release dates have been announced beyond her debut, the project marks an exciting new chapter in her music career.
Musical Style and Influences
[edit]Blaney’s sound is a fusion of alternative rock and emotionally driven songwriting, taking influence from artists such as Fiona Apple, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Elastica, and Paramore. Her music often explores themes of mental health, identity, and emotional complexity, making her work both sonically engaging and thematically resonant.
Debut Release
[edit]On April 1st, 2025, Blaney released her debut single Party of Paranoia. The track has been described as a "bold and fluid" piece, combining rich instrumentation with introspective lyrics that explore how the mind can distort perception and blend illusion with reality. The song showcases Blaney’s capacity for emotional storytelling and has helped establish her as an artist to watch.
When asked about her debut single, Blaney answered:
"It reflects my passion for mental health awareness, particularly around self-reflection and self-worth. Having personally experienced what it feels like to be my own worst enemy, I wanted to create something that speaks to those who might be struggling with similar emotions. I believe that music has the power to start important conversations about mental health, and if this song can resonate with just one person and help them feel seen, then I have accomplished what I set out to do."
Within two weeks of its release, Party of Paranoia reached over 500 streams, a significant achievement for a debut independent artist. The track’s growing popularity was largely organic, driven by Blaney’s grassroots promotion and her direct connection with fans online.
Blaney independently manages all her social media platforms, using them not only to promote her music but also to foster an open and supportive community. Her authenticity and relatability have helped her establish a loyal and growing fanbase.
Reception and Recognition
[edit]Blaney’s debut single received a positive review from Discovery Music Scotland[1], which praised her artistry and emotional depth:
"She has something to bring to the table with this brooding track. Its intensity tells me she has plenty of passion, and we won’t be hearing the last of her anytime soon."[2]
Her music has also been played on Amazing Radio, with features on both the UK and US stations, signalling early international interest in her sound.
