East Asian eras

@Smasongarrison: please could you tweak Template:Occupation by nationality and century category header/era, or whatever else may be needed, so that prople from 2nd century BC to 5th century go into "from Imperial China" rather than "Ancient Chinese"?

E.g. 2nd to 5th centuries AD no longer belong in Category:Ancient Chinese astronomers or Category:Ancient Chinese physicians.

Ok so the tricky thing is that there are nationality specific eras, but there is also a general switch statement for Medieval and Ancient categorization. ^SMason_Garrison 00:08, 9 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Fayenatic london and Smasongarrison: the above is a bit confusing because once there is a mention of the 2nd century AD. It should start with the 2nd century BC though (which is also mentioned above, just before mention of AD). Marcocapelle (talk) 06:01, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Smasongarrison and Marcocapelle: Oops! Right – I first wrote that para only about Chinese physicians, whose earliest century cat is 2nd AD. But Category:Ancient Chinese astronomers does have 1st and 2nd BC category – I have moved these manually from Ancient to Imperial. They were not using {{Astronomers by nationality and century category header}}, and indeed that template does not seem to handle BC – it generates 2nd-century rather than "2nd-century BC" parents. – Fayenatic London 21:57, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Non-diffusing

@Smasongarrison: please can you make the non-diffusing part of this template conditional on the subcats existing? See e.g. 2 redlinks currently at Category:20th-century American mathematicians. – Fayenatic London 21:41, 9 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It's not an easy fix. Right now each combination needs to be spelled out. Template:Occupation_by_nationality_and_century_category_header/diffusingchildren I'll start thinking about ways to refactor the code to make it easier to modify. ^SMason_Garrison 21:56, 9 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
