Recently, I saw other songs' RIAA search link, these result shows empty, especially Wind Beneath My Wings if I can remember correctly last month that RIAA link was ok, plus Diana (album) and above-mentioned Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do), and other Time Person of the Year Taylor Swift Exile (song), Evermore (Taylor Swift album), Midnights and other like Wrapped in Red, Save Me (Jelly Roll song)...to me it's seemed recently RIAA website has some problem...so I guessing it has nothing to do with this template...am I right? (For the time being if I had encounter similar problem I would put a <certref> workaround..) --- Cat12zu3 (talk) 05:38, 29 December 2023 (UTC)

Also just found out Roam RIAA search link not working too, it was working 2 weeks ago (at least when I tried update to remove apostrophe at that time) --- Cat12zu3 (talk) 04:44, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
Indeed, the RIAA search is not working for some time now from direct links, only manual links do. Do you think it would help if I add the comment "Manual searching is required." to all the RIAA links? Muhandes (talk) 08:47, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
If it is me, I would say (Please manually enter an URL using certref=(ref)...(/ref)) for now.
I just now looking at the template.
(I happened to found RIAA website erratic for past 2 weeks, since 27 December)
(Also as I found out during Special:Diff/1192026000, if I were to replace ar= with se= (For say se=Christopher+Cross or se=Diana instead of ar, it will show the correct result) --- Cat12zu3 (talk) 09:21, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
I missed - Solidest Special:Diff/1192156895 found out that RIAA will show nothing if enter something in <<Artist>> and nothing more, which is why I guessed that problem lies with <<Artist>>, and so is <<ar>> and replace with <<se>> and it seemed to work. --- Cat12zu3 (talk) 09:26, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
@Cat12zu3: We could temporarily replace ar+ti+format with se, but that would mean using a generic search where there are better solutions. As you noticed, ar+format searches do work, e.g., all Taylor Swift's singles, as do ti searches, e.g., all recordings with the word "Exile", but ar+ti or ti+format searches seem to fail. If this observation is correct, I could implement either ar+format or ti as temporary solutions, and I think both are better than se. Muhandes (talk) 10:10, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
I stuck most of the time on Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do) & If I Could Tell You...at the moment is these Arthur's Theme If I Could Tell You...will back get here soon. --- Cat12zu3 (talk) 11:21, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
I think if I would leave the template as it is --- Cat12zu3 (talk) 11:28, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
Well, if no one is interested in a solution, I would consider this a  Request withdrawn. Muhandes (talk) 11:38, 7 January 2024 (UTC)

NVPI certifications

NVPI have updated their web page for certifications to https://nvpi.nl/nvpi-audio/marktinformatie/goud-platina-diamant/ to reflect the introduction of diamond certifications. The thresholds for the other levels also appear to have changed according to their regulations document, but the numbers don't round up nicely when converting streams to units. The template needs to be updated as the old link no longer works. ThedancingMOONpolice (talk) 05:04, 19 December 2023 (UTC)

@ThedancingMOONpolice: I apologize for not finding the time to do this until now. I am very busy these days, but sadly, no one else has stepped forward to keep this template updated.
  • I updated the URL, it should now work.
  • I updated NVPI with the new certification levels.
  • I am working on making the template spit out the correct numbers, though like you said, they are not rounding up nicely. Another thing I noted is that up to now, the certification levels were based on release date. I'm not sure this was ever true, but I'm almost certain it is no longer true, i.e., the new certification levels apply to all certifications made from 2024 onwards, independent of release date. Is that also your impression? --Muhandes (talk) 13:00, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
I noticed another issue. Jazz and classical certifications applied to albums only before 2024, where now it seems like it might apply to singles as well. It would be very difficult to implement this, so for now I will leave it be until we see actual single Jazz certifications. --Muhandes (talk) 14:55, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
Done I went with certification date for 2024 onwards and release date prior to that, to maintain backwards compatibility. I implemented jazz albums only (through |type=jazz). Let me know if there are any issues. --Muhandes (talk) 15:22, 7 January 2024 (UTC)

Portugal certifications

AFP has updated the Portuguese certification levels for albums and singles, adding a diamond certification for the first time. Every song, regardless of its release date will now be counted towards the new thresholds. The table needs to be updated with those please. Music01, the biggest problem here is that Dropbox files fail WP:USERG. They don't have a named author or publisher, and anybody can log in to Dropbox and change the information. Another big problem is that the links you provided are already dead. We need stable URLs for certification. Binksternet (talk) 21:59, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

Spanish certifications

PROMUSICAE have officially launched a proper database. Please add it to the template as soon as possible, there are many missing certifications that are now available to users: https://www.elportaldemusica.es/awards GustavoCza (talkcontribs) 21:33, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

This would definitely be helpful for digital certifications as, for example. What I've Done was certified gold this year but didn't chart in Spain. Otherwise Numb (Linkin Park song) went platinum in 2023 but the song's link only has their gold certification. MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 23:46, 6 February 2024 (UTC)

Swedish single certifications

As of January 1, 2024, the thresholds for single certifications in Sweden have increased to 6,000,000 streams for gold status and 12,000,000 streams for platinum status. The template should be updated to reflect this. ThedancingMOONpolice (talk) 03:08, 22 March 2024 (UTC)

South Africa certification thresholds

The certification level thresholds have increased for certifications for 2024 onwards see here. Would you be so kind to update when you get a chance? Cool Marc 18:21, 8 June 2024 (UTC)

@Coolmarc:  Done To invoke the new thresholds you need to specify |certyear=2024. Earlier certifications for albums still follow the release date (see source here). Muhandes (talk) 08:49, 13 June 2024 (UTC)

Portugal singles threshold

Hey guys, could you add the "Diamond" threshold to Portugual singles certifications? The AFP added a "Diamond" certification status to singles (as of 2024, as you can see on the Associação Fonográfica Portuguesa page) that's not supported by the template yet.

Thanks, Music01 (talk) 23:28, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

@Music01:  Done. I am unable to watch this page, so if anything else is needed, please try to {{ping}} me. Muhandes (talk) 07:10, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
I take that back. This was, check Partially implemented. I reviewed the source and there are more changes that need to be made. I am repinging Music01 and also pinging ManuelButera who made a similar request. I added two more elements.
  • First, albums certifications from 2024 are based on streaming as well as physical sales.
  • Second, the new certification levels for both singles and albums apply to all certifications from 2024, independently of their release date.
I hope this may now be considered  Done now. Let me know if I still missed anything and hopefully I am able to add it. --Muhandes (talk) 10:23, 14 June 2024 (UTC)

Lithuanian certifications

Hello! On 26 April 2024, AGATA awarded songs as certified gold (for 2.5 million streams) and platinum (for 4 million streams), albeit the songs awarded are only those by Lithuanian artists. Would it be enough to warrant a separate template for them?

Link: https://www.agata.lt/lt/naujienos/agata-apdovanojimuose-pagerbti-klausomiausi-atlikejai/

Big thanks! CeolAnGhra (talk) 06:08, 17 May 2024 (UTC)

@CeolAnGhra: Do they have a database of past certifications? Do you intend to use that database intensively? If the answer to both is positive, it is justifiable to add it, provided of course that someone is available to do it. Otherwise, you can always use the template manually with |certref= and |salesref=. Muhandes (talk) 07:46, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
I think it's the first time that they awarded these certifications, so the answer to the first question is a no. Also, it looks like AGATA only awards Lithuanian songs.
Thanks for the response! CeolAnGhra (talk) 12:03, 14 June 2024 (UTC)

Austrian certification thresholds

Whenever I updated or added the Austrian certification for example: <x>Certification Table Entry|region=Austria|title=Duality|artist=Slipknot|type=single|award=Platinum|access-date=May 8, 2024|relyear=2004|certyear=2024<x/>, it always ends up: Austria (IFPI Austria) Platinum 30,000* instead of 30,000‡. The template should be updated to reflect this. So could you please be kind to update when you got the chance? Thank you. FireDragonValo (talk) 16:53, 8 August 2024 (UTC)

@FireDragonValo: You hare probably correct as all certification authorities probably use streaming these days. However, we need a source to make sure and we need to know when this practice started. I will try to figure out what this document says with Google translate, but we may need a German speaker to make sure we understand correctly. Muhandes (talk) 07:41, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
@FireDragonValo: Update: The current implementation is based on this discussion. Namely, streaming only applies when for singles released as of January 1, 2015, and for albums released as of January 1, 2017. This is why for "Duality", released in 2004, the footnote is the sales footnote * and not the streaming footnote .
Google translates it to to To reach the award limits, premium streams for singles for releases from 1/1/2015 and from 1/7/2023 also "free streams" are counted. For albums, premium streams for releases from 1/1/2017 are taken into account. This conforms with the current implementation.
Checking the archives, the same text exists in the July 2023 version of the document as well as the May 2017 version. Earlier than May 2017, I don't think streaming was used for certification. However, the consensus at the time was to ignore this short gap (2015 to May 2017) and go by the release date only. If someone is concerned, this could be fixed.
The bottom line is that I see no reason to change anything. --Muhandes (talk) 12:59, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

Right-justify for numbers

Can the template be adjusted so that number fields are right justified? (Hohum @) 14:00, 11 August 2024 (UTC)

@Hohum: I tested it in the sandbox, and to me, right justification looks worse than left justification due to the unnecessary whitespace. You can see for yourself at Template:Certification Table Entry/testcases until the sandbox edit is undone. You can also edit the sandbox version yourself if you think there is a better way to do it. Muhandes (talk) 13:56, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
Hello, thank you for testing. Surely the whitespace within the column is the same, just on the other side? There is more whitespace between entries in the "Certification" column and numbers in the final column though. Perhaps center justify the "Certification column" to ease this? Either way, numbers really ought to be right justified (imo), it makes it far easier to see their relative sizes, and is pretty standard practice for number presentation in tabular format. (Hohum @) 15:56, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
@Hohum: This seems to come down to personal preference. I’m not bothered by whitespace on the right, but whitespace in the middle is an issue for me, outweighing the benefits of right justification. This might even be a cultural preference. The table has been formatted this way for over 13 years, and this is the first request to change it, suggesting it may not be a significant concern. However, if other editors think it’s important, I’m open to making the change. Also, while searching the logs for similar requests, I found this request, which makes sense to me. Muhandes (talk) 07:43, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
Fair enough. I appreciate that you considered it. I can't find any specific MOS advice on left/right justification of number in tables either. (Hohum @) 16:43, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

South Africa (RiSA)

As of 1 January 2024, the Recording Industry of South Africa had their certification levels changed. I was planning to tabulate the change in streams and units but I figured this would be enough. (special ping: Muhandes) dxneo (talk) 20:35, 28 August 2024 (UTC)

@Dxneo: The first thing to do would be to update the article. As for the template, I'm not sure what to do with this. Say an album/single was released on June 2023 and certified on March 2024. Most sales are still before January 2024 so they follow the old sales figure, but some follow the new figure. The only sure fact is that albums/singles released from 2024 are following the new figures. What do you think? Muhandes (talk) 07:04, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
I honestly don't know. It would've been easier if they updated all recordings do this new figure (maybe they did and we don't know). I was thinking South Africa2, then we will try to update recent use South Africa looking the certification date and since there's not that much South African music on this site it won't take that long. Then maybe put a notice on both templates to alarm editors to check the dates before proceeding ( proceed with caution). I don't know if I make any sense at all, but what's your suggestion? dxneo (talk) 12:16, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
And another thing that has been bothering me for years is why United States and most other identifiers like United Kingdom, their template URL lead directly to the specified certification but South Africa doesn't. I mean why isn't it like this ? dxneo (talk) 12:23, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
@Dxneo: This was never done because no one suggested it. I will look into it. One thing I am not looking into is verifying the 182+ articles using this citation, see Category:Certification Table Entry usages for South Africa (206). Follow up on Template talk:Cite certification, where this suggestion belongs. Muhandes (talk) 12:45, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
@Dxneo: Actually, no follow-up needed—I just went ahead and quickly implemented it. Wadayanow, after 44 years of writing code, it worked on the first try, at least from the few checks I made. Let me know if you find any problems.  Done on this one. --Muhandes (talk) 17:59, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
Great, it's working just fine. Thank you. dxneo (talk) 18:38, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
Dxneo, I just realized that I already implemented this change in June. It seems like I didn't notice the discrepancy I mentioned above and I simply went by |certyear=. On retrospect, I suggest we correct the sales figure to follow |relyear=. For example, Come Closer (Wizkid song) was certified 4× Platinum in June 2024. However, as the album was released in 2017, most sales are probably before 2024. All we can say for sure is that at least 80,000 units were sold, so this is what we should list, instead of 160,000. Muhandes (talk) 12:36, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
@Dxneo: What do you think? Muhandes (talk) 10:06, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
Hello Muhandes, sorry for replying so late. I honestly don't know how to move about this. However, what I know is that the sales figures have to be updated to keep the encyclopedia up to date. I honestly think that RiSA took this into consideration before implementing this big change. What I mean is that I think they have updated the units on each and every recording on the website. Problem is that unlike RIAA, RiSA doesn't display units. Thoughts? dxneo (talk) 01:43, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

Nigeria

Hello Muhandes, sorry for directly pinging, but you are usually the only one who helps with this kind of things. I think I finally found TurnTable Certification System of Nigeria's certification level (here). Let me know what you think. dxneo (talk) 09:53, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

@Dxneo: I don't see a reason why it cannot be added. I suppose the certifications are on the tab which says "Display", not the one which says "Eligible Songs", am I correct? Muhandes (talk) 12:22, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
Yes sir, you are correct. dxneo (talk) 12:32, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
Not sure why they made "eligible songs" and "display" since they both literally show the same thing. dxneo (talk) 12:36, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
@Dxneo: Indeed, a mystery. You will also notice certifications from 2025, so this seems a little amateurish. Nevertheless, no one objected to this request or the article, so I added |region=Nigeria as an option.  Done Muhandes (talk) 19:40, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
I just tested it on "Baddest Boy", and it works fine, but I had to use |salesamount= for units. dxneo (talk) 20:08, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
@Dxneo: You used |type=song instead of |type=single and |award=platinum instead of |award=Platinum. You also made a mistake at the bottom, |streamsonly=true instead of |streaming=true. Muhandes (talk) 20:14, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
Thank you. Just that I looked for the parameters on the template and I didn't find any. You the best. dxneo (talk) 20:31, 26 October 2024 (UTC)

PMB certifications levels

Hi, I hope you're doing well. Could you please clarify whether the PMB applies its new/recent certification levels to all titles, regardless of their release dates, or are they still based on the release year? TheWikiholic (talk) 14:05, 2 December 2024 (UTC)

@TheWikiholic PMB (Brazil) uses release date. If it was done this way, I assume there were reliable sources that said so. The sources we used are listed here. If you think the sources were misunderstood or you have contradicting evidence, start discussion at Template talk:Certification Table Entry. Muhandes (talk) 14:15, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
I contacted PMB to inquire about their certification process, specifically whether sales prior to 1990 are included. They replied:
"A Pro-Música Brasil anteriormente se chamava ABPD - Associação Brasileira dos Produtores de Discos, e foi fundada em 1958."
"As vendas são contabilizadas desde o lançamento do produto."
"Sim, por exemplo, recentemente houve a certificação deste álbum do artista Roberto Carlos, que foi lançado em 1967."
But Roberto Carlos' 1981 self-titled album is certified 12× Diamond, implying sales of 12 million units based on its release year. Do you think it's possible for an album to sell 12 million units in Brazil?. — TheWikiholic (talk) 05:45, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
I don't know. The response only says that it includes sales from the release date, it says nothing about the amount certified. What do the other sources say? With your permission, can this discussion be moved to the correct place? I doubt anyone who cares will see it on my talk page. Muhandes (talk) 07:52, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
"Ok, let's move the discussion to the appropriate place. Maybe other editors can shed some light on it." TheWikiholic (talk) 13:00, 3 December 2024 (UTC)

@Markus WikiEditor: As they are knowledgeable about the Brazilian music market. Erick (talk) 18:54, 3 December 2024 (UTC)

I have the same question. I considered several possibilities, including whether this album has a Spanish version and if sales from other countries are being included, as they do in South Korea, but I eventually ruled that out. In Roberto Carlos's discography article, there was a link stating that the album had sold 2 million copies by 1981. I reached out to Pro-Música Brasil via Instagram and Twitter to ask about it, but unfortunately, they never respond to me. Markus WikiEditor (talk) 19:07, 3 December 2024 (UTC)

I have asked two more questions to the PMB.

"Desculpe incomodar. Você pode esclarecer se aplica seus novos/recentes níveis de certificação a todos os títulos, independentemente das datas de lançamento, ou se ainda é baseado no ano de lançamento?"

"E de acordo com o banco de dados da Pro-Música Brasil, Roberto Carlos (1981) foi certificado 12 vezes Diamante. Isso equivale a 12 milhões de unidades?"

They gave me two screenshots of the current certification levels for both singles and albums and wrote that S"treams de áudio equivalentes Diamante 1x = 600.000.000, Diamante 12x = 600.000.000 x 12 = 7.200.000.000."

Isn't it clear now that they are applying certification levels based on the certification date?— TheWikiholic (talk) 00:05, 8 December 2024 (UTC)

New Zealand changes

There are links to the new site which is Aotearoa Music Charts regarding charts and singles instead of NZ Music Charts for certifications. https://aotearoamusiccharts.co.nz/charts/singles; https://aotearoamusiccharts.co.nz/charts/albums (Example: https://aotearoamusiccharts.co.nz/archive/singles/2024-11-01; https://aotearoamusiccharts.co.nz/archive/albums/2024-11-01FireDragonValo (talk) 20:24, 1 November 2024 (UTC)

Indeed, all the citations we have are not working. In many cases an archived version is available, so we could use a bot going after them if I add support for |archive-url= and |archive-date=, but the Wayback Machine is having difficulties right now. We can support the new website by either introducing a new parameter (|chart-id=?) or introducing a new value for |source=. Pinging Ss112 who uses this often, and of course, welcoming any input. Muhandes (talk) 16:37, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
Actually, this discussion belongs in Template talk:Cite certification, but since we started here I'll continue here. I quickly implemented one solution, which you can see in the sandbox version and testcases. Basically it adds the following:
  • If |source= is not specified (or |source=oldchart), |archive-url= and |archive-date= can be specified to use Wayback Machine. For example: {{Cite certification/sandbox|region=New Zealand|type=album|id=3467|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240713231341/https://nztop40.co.nz/chart/albums?chart=3467|archive-date=2024-07-13}} creates "New Zealand album certifications". Recorded Music NZ. Archived from the original on 2024-07-13.. Supposedly a bot can be used to populate these fields.
  • If |source= is not specified (or |source=oldchart) and |archive-url=/|archive-date= are not specified (which is where all older citations will end), the result is a warning message and the page is categorized for bot or human correction. For example: {{Cite certification/sandbox|region=New Zealand|type=album|id=3467}} creates "New Zealand album certifications". Recorded Music NZ.[dead link]. Note that, conveniently, if you edit and preview this page, you get a link to this page which lets you see which archive is available.
  • If |source=newchart, |id= can be specified in date format to reach the new charts. For example: {{Cite certification/sandbox|region=New Zealand|source=newchart|type=album|id=1991-08-11}} creates "New Zealand album certifications". Recorded Music NZ.
Let me know what you think. --Muhandes (talk) 18:38, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
There are also links to their New Zealand singles and albums. Let me know what you think? (Examples: https://aotearoamusiccharts.co.nz/charts/catalogue-singles; https://aotearoamusiccharts.co.nz/charts/catalogue-albums) FireDragonValo (talk) 20:32, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
@FireDragonValo: if you are planning to use the catalogue chart extensively, we can add it as |source=catalogchart, but this is something to do after we fix all the rest. I am still looking for input about that. Muhandes (talk) 21:34, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
Great. Thank you. FireDragonValo (talk) 19:29, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
Since no one bothered to comment on this, and I am naive enough to think over 3,500 dead links (Category:Cite certification used for New Zealand with missing archive (0)) bother someone, I went ahead and made the changes above. Pinging FireDragonValo and Ss112 FWIW. I will seek bot assistance in automatically fixing these citations.
Let me know if there any problems. Otherwise, this is  Done. Muhandes (talk) 13:39, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
@Muhandes Could you add support for |archive-url=/|archive-date= for the new website as well? For example: "Espresso" has an archived link to the new website, but the live link is rendered as https://nztop40.co.nz/chart/singles?chart=2024-11-22 since |source=newchart is not specified, which leads to the wrong chart archive. It might even be preferrable to make |archive-url=/|archive-date= required for the new website as currently certifications seem to get reverted to the previous one once a new chart is published (https://aotearoamusiccharts.co.nz/archive/singles/2024-11-22 now shows "Espresso" with a double platinum certification rather than triple platinum like the archived link and the current chart). ThedancingMOONpolice (talk) 03:30, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
@ThedancingMOONpolice: I still hope these are growing pains and the website will stop doing that. Did you try communicating with the Official Aotearoa Music Charts and asking them why they do that? Muhandes (talk) 15:47, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
I have reached out to them about this matter through their contact email, but didn't receive a response. ThedancingMOONpolice (talk) 21:44, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
Wanted to add on that the New Zealand Certifications are now available in the Radioscope website, (https://www.radioscope.co.nz/2024/00/00/single-cert-search/) for Singles and (https://www.radioscope.co.nz/2024/00/00/album-cert-search/) for Albums. I suggest a new template for it, but the only issue is that manual entry is required in the website.I have edited Toxic using the Radioscope link. @Muhandes @ThedancingMOONpolice@FireDragonValo Kneetoks (talk) 17:21, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
Looks like certifications go as far back as 2005 for singles and 2013 for albums. The database search could be implemented into the current template as the option without |id= or |source= parameters specified. ThedancingMOONpolice (talk) 18:59, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
@ThedancingMOONpolice: I'm not entirely sure what you mean by |id=. How would it be applicable in this case? I understand |source=rasioscope. Other than that, It seems like the only important thing is to provide a |type= to select between the two URLs and a |title= for the manual search. For example, {{Cite certification/sandbox|region=New Zealand|source=radioscope|type=album|title=Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap}} creates the citation "New Zealand album certifications – Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap". Radioscope. Type Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap in the "Search:" field.. Am I missing something? Muhandes (talk) 12:52, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
@Muhandes I meant that if neither parameter is provided, the template could default to using this source rather than displaying the current error message of the chart number needing to be provided for the certification. It would be similar to the Spanish certifications that default to the database search when |id= or |certweek= aren't specified, but in this case it would be |id= or |source=. ThedancingMOONpolice (talk) 15:10, 15 December 2024 (UTC)

@ThedancingMOONpolice: I don't like the idea of changing the default that easily. I think we should first see how well this source is maintained before making it the default. --Muhandes (talk) 17:44, 15 December 2024 (UTC)

Fair enough. I would just like to point out that the search box auto-filters the results while typing the term, so pressing Enter wouldn't be required. Otherwise, the current implementation in the sandbox works for me. ThedancingMOONpolice (talk) 17:57, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
@ThedancingMOONpolice: That's a good point. I removed the text about pressing enter. This is now  Done again. Muhandes (talk) 09:16, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Also pinging Kneetoks, GustavoCza, FireDragonValo, Newpicarchive to let them know this option is now available. --Muhandes (talk) 10:54, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Got it, thanks Muhandes Kneetoks (talk) 10:57, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Just fixed the references for Coldplay's pages. Thank you for the notice. GustavoCza (talkcontribs) 18:03, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Also pinging other editors who used this source often Carlosmarkos2345, TheWikiholic, Felipeedit, Goodnightgotham. Muhandes (talk) 12:32, 17 December 2024 (UTC)

Swiss certification levels

I implemented a change in Swiss single certification levels per source. This was pointed out by Newpicarchive in an edit summary here. In the future, please request changes here. The purpose of |salesamount= is to list pure sales from a reliable source, not to overload the sales amount by the certification.
Note that singles released in 2023 now require |relmonth= to show the correct sales amount and will show zero sales otherwise. Such singles will show up in Category:Pages using Certification Table Entry-Sales with missing information (2). Muhandes (talk) 17:17, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

Coldplay's "Paradise"

The song was certified Platinum in Germany after they changed the thresholds, meaning its certification is for 300,000 units, not 600,000. How do we reflect this on the template without using the "Salesamount" parameter? GustavoCza (talkcontribs) 17:28, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

@GustavoCza: Germany certification level go by the release year (|relyear=). The single shows the correct certification amount for a single released in 2011. Muhandes (talk) 17:32, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
How come the template for "Yellow" show 600,000 units instead of 500,000 then? GustavoCza (talkcontribs) 18:21, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
@GustavoCza: This is because in 2024 Germany changed the certification rules and started following the certification date. Muhandes (talk) 18:38, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
Both the English and German pages for Bundesverband Musikindustrie state the certification rules were changed in July 2023, while Paradise got certified in December 2023. I know we shouldn't use Wikipedia as a source for discussion, but I don't know where else to find this type of information in precise manner. GustavoCza (talkcontribs) 18:42, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
@GustavoCza: The change was implemented in this edit from June 2024, following this discussion and information provided by Lk95 from a correspondence by a German Wikipedia editor with a BVMI employee. I don't speak German so I take their word for it. Muhandes (talk) 19:51, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
I gave a quick look at the discussion and thanks to Google I've been able to find the certification for "Paradise" on the "musikindustrie.de" domain. The song moved 600,000 units according to the file I found. GustavoCza (talkcontribs) 20:09, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
@GustavoCza: Since this document is from December 2023, maybe they made the change on December 2023 rather than January 2024. I don't know, and as you probably already realized, I don't make these decisions; I follow the consensus. Would you mind if I move this discussion to Template talk:Certification Table Entry so other editors can take part in the discussion? Muhandes (talk) 20:44, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
Not at all! The more accurate the certifications template gets, the better. GustavoCza (talkcontribs) 21:04, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
@GustavoCza: Discussion moved.Looking at the source again, some singles (like "Paradise") use 300,000 units for gold, aligning with the certification date theory, while others (like "Shut Up") use 150,000, which corresponds to the release date theory. There might be a simple explanation for this discrepancy, but I haven’t found one. Perhaps using |salesamount= and |salesref= against their intended purpose in this specific case could be an acceptable compromise. While I still have concerns about setting a precedent for using these parameters for certifications, if there is consensus to allow this deviation, it could work for the very limited number of affected articles. Muhandes (talk) 08:23, 19 December 2024 (UTC)

Alignment of notes in the bottom

{{Certification Table Bottom}} collects the footnote-refs for the table entries in a table-cell that is the full width of the table. It centers each of the lines within the cell. That makes it hard to track visually, since the primary way to read it is to find the line that starts with a certain symbol. This is also out-of-sync with ref-lists in other contexts, that are all left-aligned. It's a long-term problem that WP doesn't have a site-wide template or other standard formatting style for table footnotes. Given it's hard-coded here, can we change the formatting here to improve usability and get in sync with others? DMacks (talk) 22:30, 16 July 2023 (UTC)

@DMacks: It should be quite easy to edit {{Certification Table Bottom}} to this effect. I've added the task to my TDL but I am not expecting to be free for the next two weeks. Muhandes (talk) 16:31, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
@DMacks:I revived this subject from the archive since it was on my to-do list, but I hadn’t been able to address it earlier due to health reasons (which are ongoing, but I’m able to edit now). If this is still of interest, could you provide an example of a left-aligned reference list in a different context—other than the reference and notes sections at the bottom of articles? Does anyone else find this idea appealing? Muhandes (talk) 11:59, 19 December 2024 (UTC)

NVPI certs

Lately, the link for NVPI certifications has been changed again (see here), and from now on, you need to select the year to search for requested certifications (there is no longer the option "alle jaargangen" - all the years).

About discography articles featuring Dutch certs, I would like to know if could have some way to search these ones without insert a year, due to be hard-working to guess this one when an album or song were certified. LuanCampSouza93 (talk) 16:33, 19 December 2024 (UTC)

@LuanCampSouza93: I changed the URL for Netherlands as a first step. The guide text displayed is currently wrong.
I don't see any way to select "all years", so the only thing we can do now is to make |certyear= mandatory. I'll wait for some more input before making it so.
For the future, such discussions belong at Template talk:Cite certification, although it doesn't hurt to leave a note here as well since I think most editors frequent this page more often. Muhandes (talk) 12:14, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
Have you ever tried this one? --Milkypine (talk) 17:13, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
@Milkypine: I didn't know of it's existence, thanks for pointing it out. It seems to be official and other than the latest certifications, identical to the other database. LuanCampSouza93 ? Muhandes (talk) 17:19, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
@Milkypine: I also didn't know of it's existence. I think it can be useful, more than the previous link. Thank you very much. LuanCampSouza93 (talk) 14:07, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
It seems to be official and it also checks out to have the same certifications, so I agree.  Done Muhandes (talk) 14:28, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
@LuanCampSouza93 and Milkypine: With more experimentation I found out this also works: https://www.goudplatina.nl/database?year=2022&type=Album&search=Future+Nostaliga so I can implement a direct link without a search. I'll try to find time for this next week. --Muhandes (talk) 14:36, 27 December 2024 (UTC)

Hi, can anyone inform me about this action? On this edit, I see a reference from Dropbox instead of Australian Recording Industry Association website. I think that Dropbox can't be a valid source. NameGame (talk) 20:29, 20 January 2025 (UTC)

Dropbox links come directly from ARIA Charts. https://www.aria.com.au/accreditations when you click on the links below it goes directly to those dropbox files. They supply it. Dhoffryn (talk) 20:33, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
@Dhoffryn Now I got it. By the way, in my viewpoint, it is bizarre! they can use their own website instead of a cloud service. Thank you for your rapid respond. NameGame (talk) 20:42, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
Before they did have a website of their own where they have listed everything and it made more sense (probably you can find find it through web archive). But eventually they have switched it off to dropbox links. Which is sometimes confusing to some editors. But stuff like this is often brought to attention amongst music editors. Dhoffryn (talk) 20:48, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
The "ARIA" is just promoting Dropbox at this time. that's all it. haha XD. NameGame (talk) 20:53, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
Since you are the one millionth person to ask this, perhaps someone can come out with a way to include this in the citation? We can certainly add |via=Dropbox, but I'm not sure that will do the job. Muhandes (talk) 08:00, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

Italian certs

Italian certification thresholds for songs have been increased by FIMI to 100k (Gold) and 200k (Platinum) starting in January 2025 (see also). France3c0 (talk) 14:21, 24 February 2025 (UTC)

@France3c0:  Done. See for example Balorda nostalgia. Muhandes (talk) 17:11, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
