Even though it only has partial international recognition it's commonly described as a country in reliable sources (e.g., those cited in the first sentence of our article on Taiwan). While some secondary sources may colloquially refer to Taiwan as a “country,” Wikipedia policy requires us to reflect "international legal and political reality", not informal usage. Taiwan is not a UN member state and is officially recognized as a sovereign state by only a small minority of countries. The UN and the vast majority of states recognize the Peoples Republic of China as the sole representative of China, with Taiwan’s status remaining unresolved.
Per WP:NPOVand WP:PRECISION wording should avoid implicitly taking a position in an active sovereignty dispute. Listing Taiwan alongside universally recognized states under the unqualified label “Asian nations” risks misleading readers by implying a level of international recognition that does not exist.
