Place of Birth?

[edit]

So where exactly was Sheila Chisholm born? The text of the article states it was at her family's country property near Breadalbane. The summary box says it was in the Sydney suburb of Woollahra. They're several hundred kilometres apart. Rithom (talk) 01:04, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not the original 'sheila'

[edit]

Article says:

"Known for her striking beauty, she is likely the inspiration for the Australian phrase "a good-looking sheila".

This is wrong. The term 'sheila' has been widely used in Australia since at least the 1830s. Originally it meant an Irish woman, over time it became generalised to mean any female. 'Sheila' as a term for a woman was already nearly a century old by the time Sheila Chisholm became a star of London social life.

See for example the Macquarie Dictionary:

We should probably delete this incorrect and misleading statement from the article. Maclabhruinn (talk) 02:40, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
