BLP and sourcing improvements (environmental racism section)
[edit]Hello,
I am an independent researcher reviewing this article for sourcing, neutrality, and clarity. I’d like to propose a few small, incremental wording improvements based on recent independent sources.
These suggestions are intended to better align the article with:
- WP:BLP (accuracy and avoiding misleading emphasis)
- WP:V (verifiability)
- WP:NPOV / WP:WEIGHT (reflecting the balance of sources)
I’ve tried to keep all proposed changes minimal and source-driven, and I welcome any adjustments from editors.
Environmental racism section (suggested wording refinement)
[edit]Rather than a full rewrite, I suggest a slight wording adjustment to reflect how multiple reliable sources describe the topic:
> “Benjamin F. Chavis Jr. is widely credited with popularizing and helping to define the term ‘environmental racism’ in 1982 during protests in Warren County, North Carolina.”
Rationale:
- This phrasing reflects multiple independent sources (academic, institutional, and media)
- Uses “widely credited” to avoid overstatement
- Keeps the focus on verifiable attribution rather than authorship claims
Regarding the Burrow attribution
[edit]The current mention of Carolyn A. Burrow may benefit from clarification:
- If a reliable source explicitly documenting use of the exact term is available, it would be helpful to include it
- If not, it may be appropriate to qualify or simplify the statement per WP:V
I’m open to retaining balanced wording if stronger sourcing is identified.
Thank you for your time and consideration. ~2026-25778-59 (talk) 21:39, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
