Mar-a-lago Spa
[edit]Schneier, Matthew (15 July 2019). "Ghislaine Maxwell, The Socialite on Jeffrey Epstein's Arm". The Cut. Retrieved 1 October 2024. 65.78.133.109 (talk) 22:26, 14 July 2025 (UTC)
When did Mar-a-Lago became a club?
[edit]In 1994, he converted it into the Mar-a-Lago Club, a members-only club with guest rooms, a spa, and other hotel-style amenities... City council rejected this plan. Trump instead turned the estate into a private club in 1994,[1] fighting what he considered to be excessive restrictions.[2][3]
The citation for 1994 comes from Town & Country, which actually says: "Trump turned Mar-a-Lago into a private club in 1995." The first The Washington Times article says "In 1995, Mr. Trump was able to open Mar-a-Lago, and the club thrived." The second The Washington Times article says "Mar-a-Lago opened as a club in 1995."
If a more definitive opening date is required, Mar-a-Lago was officially granted a certificate of occupancy (and hence, could legally act as a private club) on April 6, 1995.[4][5][6] The private club officially opened on December 9, 1995.[7][8]
I can't actually edit the article but I would like to add the previously mentioned citations, but I suspect it may be WP:OVERCITE and I'm not sure a definitive opening date is necessary. Let me know your thoughts? John Kinslow (talk) 04:23, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
- The 1994 date is definitely not correct. By all RS accounts I've seen, it was in April 1995, which is what the club itself cites, as well as other RS such as the Palm Beach Post, NPR, etc. I don't see any reason why we shouldn't list it as April 6, 1995, which appears well documented. Let me know if you need someone to make that edit for you. ⇒SWATJester Shoot Blues, Tell VileRat! 07:24, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
- Sounds good, yes, can someone please make that edit for me?
- Also, I checked the club's history page and it does say "In April of 1995, Mar-a-Lago became established as The Mar-a-Lago Club." John Kinslow (talk) 22:23, 23 August 2025 (UTC)
