Tyler Dotson
Tyler Dotson (February 7. 2006) is an American student journalist, broadcaster, and former high school athlete. He is currently enrolled at Hinds Community College’s Utica Campus, majoring in Radio and Television Production & Broadcasting Technology. Dotson is recognized for his work as an anchor and reporter for WHUC News 7, the college’s student-run news outlet.
Early Life and Education
Dotson was born and raised in Byram, Mississippi. He began his high school education at Terry High School, where he played quarterback for the football team. He later transferred to Clinton High School, where he participated in track and field. In 2022, Dotson was part of the Clinton High School boys’ track and field team that won the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 6A State Championship. This victory earned him a state champion ring.
After graduating from high school, Dotson enrolled at Hinds Community College’s Utica Campus to pursue studies in broadcasting. During his first semester, he achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA, earning him President’s Scholar honors.

WHUC News 7
At Hinds CC, Dotson has become a prominent figure in the college’s broadcasting program. He serves as an anchor and reporter for WHUC News 7, covering various campus events and producing news segments. His work includes reporting on movie nights, student life, and other campus activities. Dotson’s ability to independently direct and produce news segments has set him apart from his peers.
In 2025, he was recognized as a finalist for the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters’ Television Student of the Year Award, highlighting his outstanding reporting and technical skills.
