Sylvain Ledda (born 1971) is a French literary scholar, writer, and theater director. He specializes in 19th-century French literature, particularly Romanticism, and is a professor at the University of Rouen Normandy. His academic work focuses on authors such as Alfred de Musset, Gérard de Nerval, and Alfred de Vigny.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Ledda earned the French agrégation in modern literature in 1996. He defended his doctoral dissertation at the University of Nantes in 2006, titled La Représentation de la mort sur la scène romantique (1827–1835). In 2010, he obtained his habilitation (HDR) at Paris-Sorbonne University with a study focused on themes of death and fantasy in the works of Alfred de Musset.[1]
Academic career
[edit]From 2007 to 2011, Ledda was a lecturer at the University of Rouen. He served as a professor at the University of Nantes from 2011 to 2013, before returning to Rouen. Since 2013, he has held a full professorship in 19th-century French literature at the University of Rouen Normandy. Between 2017 and 2019, he headed the Department of Modern Literature and coordinated the research group “Stage and Screen Arts” within the CÉRÉdI research center.[1]

Awards
[edit]- 2009: Received the Prix Alfred de Vigny for his book Des feux dans l’ombre.[2]
Research
[edit]Ledda’s research explores the interconnection between literature, theater, and cultural history in 19th-century France. He has written extensively on Alfred de Musset, including studies of melancholy, death, fantasy, and poetic aesthetics. His work has been cited in academic journals such as Romantisme.[3]
He has also contributed to studies on Franco-Italian cultural exchange, sociocriticism, and interdisciplinary analysis between literature, music, and visual arts.
