Sigma Software is an international IT company that combines service and product businesses, educational initiatives, and both investment and charitable funds. The company has over 40 offices in more than 20 countries worldwide.[1], employs more than 2,000 people, and is listed among the world’s top 100 service IT companies according to IAOP.[2][3][4]

History

[edit]

Sigma Software, founded in 2002 in Kharkiv, Ukraine, by Valery Krasovsky, Dmitry Vartanian, Dmytro Zhuk, Volodymyr Chyrva, and Volodymyr Beck, began as Eclipse Software Programming (Eclipse SP), providing software development services. In 2007, it became part of the Swedish Sigma AB, enhancing its global reach. The company rebranded as Sigma Ukraine in 2011 and later adopted the name Sigma Software in 2014.[5]

In 2016, Sigma Software launched its educational platform, Sigma Software University.[6]

In 2019, the company created Sigma Software Labs, a platform for Ukrainian startups that provides access to consulting, networking with entrepreneurs, and venture funding. Sigma Software Labs has approximately 20 investments in customer and third‑party product companies.[7]

In early 2021, Sigma Software acquired IdeaSoft, which had 120 developers on its team. IdeaSoft, in turn, purchased PULS Software—a company specializing in software and game development—and was renamed Eventyr after the deal.[8]

In the same 2021, co‑founders Sigma Software, IdeaSoft, and Datrics (a no‑code data‑science platform) launched the SID Partners Fund[9] for seed and pre‑seed stage startups. The size of the trust fund is $15 million and it focuses on projects with Ukrainian founders in the deep tech, B2B, Blockchain, FinTech, and automotive industries.[10]

Since the full‑scale invasion in 2022, Sigma Software has expanded its European presence by opening new offices in Krakow and Poznan, Poland, Lisbon, Portugal and establishing a representative office in Prague, Czech Republic.[11][12]

Additionally, Sigma Software has secured coworking spaces in Cascais, Portugal; and various cities in Germany to support its relocated specialists.[13]

Services

[edit]

Sigma Software provides IT consulting, full-cycle software development, and product maintenance, and it also develops and sells proprietary software solutions. Its core areas of activity include IoT and embedded systems development, AR/VR solutions, artificial intelligence, automated testing, and cybersecurity. The company also offers services for startups, engages in UX/UI design, and creates innovative software products.

The company has collaborated with clients such as Volvo, Scandinavian Airlines, Verizon Media, DanAds, IGT, Formpipe, and Knorr‑Bremse, covering multiple business domains.[14]

CSR projects

[edit]

Sigma Software carries out corporate social responsibility projects, including Inspirium[15], which showcases the achievements of Ukrainian engineers; United by Victories, a mural series celebrating the unity of the Ukrainian people; and Femmegineering[16], a program of educational events, mentorships, and meet-ups designed to support and advance women in engineering and IT.[17]

Sigma Software operates its own charitable foundation, the Sigma Software Unity Fund, to support social initiatives. On 24 February 2022, the fund launched new activities focused on assisting both civilians and the military.[18]

In 2022, Sigma Software launched Star for Life Ukraine, a branch of the global Star for Life project founded in 2005 by Swedish entrepreneur and philanthropist Dan Olofsson. The Ukrainian branch aims to teach schoolchildren computer literacy and basic programming, provide psychological support when needed, and motivate them toward learning and personal development.[19]

Startup ecosystem involvement

[edit]

In 2018–2019, Sigma Software invested in several proprietary products, among them clean.io, a cybersecurity product developer that was named Baltimore’s Startup of the Year and raised US $5 million in funding.[citation needed] The company’s startup roster also includes Black Snow, an augmented-reality game. The game offers a Ukrainian localization and is available in the Ukrainian App Store.[citation needed]

Sigma Software and Sigma Software Labs organize the Unicorn startup competition (formerly IT Eureka), including over 900 projects and 2,200 participants in the past eight years.[20]

In 2024, Sigma Software Labs co-organized the Ukrainian final of the Startup World Cup, one of the world’s most prestigious startup competitions. The event brought together more than 200 participants, and the winner earned the chance to represent Ukraine in the global final in Silicon Valley and compete for a US $1 million investment. The initiative is aimed at supporting the development of Ukraine’s startup ecosystem.[21]

The Defence Builder Accelerator is a program developed with the involvement of tech-ecosystem leaders, including Genesis, the investment arm of Sigma Software Labs, and the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE). Its goal is to deliver technological solutions to the front lines quickly. Under the supervision of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, the country is accelerating the development of battlefield innovations. The Defence Builder Accelerator supports defense-tech teams by providing military expertise, investment, business guidance, and access to the startup community.[22][23]
