Jamie-May Minjie (born 1990, Taipei), a.k.a Jamie Ma, is a millennial visual and text-based artist, poet, and cultural entrepreneur. Her work spans multiple disciplines, including poetry, visual art, and digital art platforms. [1][2] Minjie's interdisciplinary practice bridges literary and visual forms, and her work has appeared in independent and experimental art and poetry platforms.

From 2017 to 2019, she was also a columnist for the online series New York Diary.[3] and participated the writing workshop with the Brooklyn Writers Project.[4] In 2022, she published her debut poetry collection, Heart, Diamond, Club, Spade, which features a foreword by Canadian poet Jason Stefanik. [5]

In addition to her writing, Minjie produces diaristic expressionist watercolors.[6] In 2021, she co-founded Minjic[7], an eCommerce platform promoting emerging and mid-career artists, including Peter Piek, Ellen Grossman, and Eilen Itzel Mena, among others.[8]

She is a founding member of the New York-based text-art collective TXT, alongside Neil Ramsay, Patrick Meagher, Alfred Steiner, Sha Weï, and Lydia Smith.[9]

Education

[edit]

Minjie began formal artistic training in 2004, studying pencil drawing and later oil painting under Taiwanese artist Peng Kanglong. She completed a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Foreign Languages at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology in 2013. In 2017, Minjie studied creative writing at the NYU School of Professional Studies. During that period, she also took courses in watercolor at P.I. Art Center in Manhattan. She earned a MA with distinction from University College London (UCL) in 2020.[10]
