Hel Pyre (real name: Elina Papadogianni) is a Greek musician, vocalist, bassist, songwriter, and visual artist based in Athens, Greece. She is known for her involvement in various metal subgenres, including thrash, death, black, and symphonic metal. Pyre has been active in the music scene since 2012 and is recognized for her dynamic stage presence and contributions to multiple bands and projects. Details about her early life and musical education are not widely publicized yet.[1][2]
Career
[edit]Nervosa (2023–present)
[edit]In March 2023, Pyre joined the all-female thrash metal band Nervosa as the bassist. She contributed to their fifth studio album, Jailbreak, released in 2023 under Napalm Records and has been active in the band's subsequent tours and performances.[3][4]
W.E.B. (2018–present)
[edit]Since 2018, Pyre has been the bassist and backing vocalist for the symphonic black metal band W.E.B., signed to Metal Blade Records. Her contributions are notable on albums such as Colosseum (2021) and the EP Into Hell Fire We Burn (2023). The track "Necrology of Hel" was re-recorded with Pyre performing all vocals.[5][6]
AfterBlood (2012–present)
[edit]In 2012, Hel Pyre founded the modern death metal band AfterBlood. Serving as the lead vocalist and primary songwriter, she has been instrumental in shaping the band's sound and lyrical themes. AfterBlood released the album Of Unsound Minds in 2013, featuring guest appearances by Tom Angelripper of Sodom and Waldemar Sorychta of Grip Inc. In 2017, AfterBlood released the EP Blood Art Triptych.[7][8]
Other Projects
[edit]- Christfuck: Hel Pyre was the vocalist and bassist for the black metal band Christfuck. The band released an EP in 2016 named Hellgoat Militia and a cover of Rotting Christ's "Exiled Archangels".[9]
- Darcode: A rock/groove metal project initiated by Hel Pyre. In December 2024, she released a collection of early recordings under the title Darcode, showcasing her experimental phase in music creation.[10]
Guest Appearances
[edit]- King Diamond: Provided backing vocals during the South American tour and Psycho Las Vegas Festival in 2017, and was announced as part of the 2025 European tour lineup.[11]
- Kamelot: Guest vocalist appearance during live performances.[12]
- Testament / Metal Allegiance: Performed live with Metal Allegiance including "The Preacher" in 2024.[13]
Other Activities

[edit]Since 2016, Pyre has co-hosted TV War, a metal-focused television show airing every Sunday, powered by the Greek edition of Metal Hammer. The program features interviews, music videos, and discussions related to the metal music scene.[14]
Visual Arts
[edit]Beyond her musical career, Pyre is an accomplished visual artist. Her work includes handcrafted masks, paintings, and mixed media pieces, often exploring themes of transformation and the macabre. Her art has been showcased on her official website.[1][2]
