Giselle Anne is a professional Argentine tango dancer, choreographer and teacher, recognized for her contribution to the evolution of tango technique and pedagogy. Together with Gustavo Naveira she developed a progressive teaching methodology that has influenced generations of dancers and teachers worldwide, transforming stage and social tango through technical, musical, and pedagogical analysis.[1][2]

Early Life and Training

Trained academically in Contemporary Dance, Classical Ballet, and Argentine Folklore, Giselle Anne graduated from the Escuela Nacional de Danzas Aída Mastrazzi and pursued additional studies at the University of Buenos Aires. She began exploring tango in 1985, learning initially through self-directed practice and pivotal lessons with the legendary "milongueros" Antonio Todaro and Pepito Avellaneda.

Early Performances

Giselle Anne's early career involved collaborations with major tango orchestras and iconic figures:

Major Productions

Later she performed in internationally acclaimed productions, including:

  • Tango Argentino[3][4] with Sexteto Mayor Orquestra, a groundbreaking show that introduced Argentine tango to global audiences (cast 1991 London at Aldwych Theatre)
  • Tango Pasión with Sexteto Mayor Orquestra, an award-winning production touring Europe, Asia, and the Americas
  • Monte Carlo – Ball de la Rose, performing with Juan José Mosalini Orquestra
  • "Paris-New York a Buenos Aires", in Toulouse, Paris etc.
  • Buenos Aires venues: Señor Tango, Michelangelo, and Tango Mío

Spain and Pedagogical Innovation

From 1992 to 1998, Giselle lived in Spain, where she:

  • Founded her own dance company.
  • Opened a tango school.
  • Created the Casa del Tango Association in Seville

During this period, she also created individual tango technique classes, focusing on balance, posture, and personal movement within tango steps. This innovative approach helped reshape how dancers develop technical independence, influencing teaching formats internationally.

Collaboration with Gustavo Naveira

In 1995, Giselle began a long-term creative collaboration[5] with Gustavo Naveira. Together, they developed a tango teaching method based on a structural analysis of movement. They named this method Progressive Tango Program™, a system designed to enable progressive learning in the correct sequence for understanding structure, technique, and partner coordination.

Since 1998, Giselle has participated alongside Gustavo in many international Tango Festivals (in cities like Basel,[6] Amsterdam, Catania, Sitges, Bologna, Padova, Lugano,[7] Roma, Tarbes, Hamburg, San Francisco, Miami, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, among many others), held in over 50 countries.

In addition to these festivals, they regularly performed at the milongas of Buenos Aires of that period, further strengthening their presence within the local tango community.[8]

Their teaching and their demonstrations—marked by precision and musicality—have become her personal hallmark.

They created 20-hour Intensive Seminars, each dedicated to in-depth exploration of specific tango themes. These seminars were first held in Buenos Aires at "Club Español" and "La Papelera", later expanding to festivals worldwide.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Giselle Anne and Gustavo Naveira offered online tango classes for couples , a format that continued for several years. Giselle Anne also introduced online group classes focused on individual technique, which she continues to teach today to participants from around the world.

Boulder Tango Studio & Festival

Giselle co-founded the Boulder Tango Studio[9] in Colorado with Gustavo Naveira, awarded Best Tango Academy (2018) by Premios Tango, Argentina. She co-produced the Boulder Tango Festival for a decade, significantly contributing to the growth of the U.S. tango community.

Recent Work

Giselle continues to teach and perform internationally. She is currently developing a collaborative project with Diana Cruz[10], exploring inclusive and body-conscious approaches to teaching tango through her seminars, working with tango from the "Perspective of the Follower's role ."[11][12]
