Archera is a free SaaS platform that makes it easy for teams to identify and action savings opportunities that do not require changes to infrastructure such as covering On-Demand usage with commitment discounts like Reserved Instances or executing exchanges and resales of existing commitments. The platform creates recommended purchasing plans after analyzing usage patterns and considers every eligible discount available to find the optimal set for each user's environment.[1]

History

[edit]

Archera was founded in 2019 by Aran Khanna and Nikhil Khanna.[1] Aran Khanna previously worked at Amazon Web Services and Microsoft, while Nikhil Khanna held roles at Uber and D.E. Shaw.[2] The company is headquartered in Bellevue, Washington.[2]

In July 2024, Archera announced a US$17 million Series B funding round led by HighSage Ventures, with participation from Ridge Ventures, Amplify Partners, and PSL Ventures.[1][2] At the same time, the company secured over US$100 million in lending capacity through an arrangement with the insurance provider Relm.[1]

Products and services

[edit]

Archera offers a free multicloud platform for managing cloud commitments across providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud (beta).[3]

Key product features include:

  • Insurance-backed Commitments – short-term contracts, as little as 30 days, that provide access to discounts typically reserved for one- or three-year reserved instances.[1]
  • Automated forecasting and reporting – machine learning models used for cost prediction, anomaly detection, and scenario planning.[4]
  • Right-sizing recommendations – integration with AWS Compute Optimizer to identify unused or underutilized resources.[5]
  • Commitment lifecycle management – tools for managing purchases, renewals, and policy automation for AWS Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, and related services.[6]
  • Cross-Cloud Coverage – Supports Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure, with Google Cloud in beta.[7]

Business model

[edit]

Archera provides its core platform for free and generates revenue through premiums on insured cloud commitments.[1] As of mid-2024, the company reported serving around 400 customers, generating approximately US$7 million in annual revenue, and has been net profitable since mid-2023.[1][8]

Funding

[edit]
  • Series B (July 2024): US$17 million led by HighSage Ventures, with Ridge Ventures, Amplify Partners, and PSL Ventures.[1][2]
  • Secured over US$100 million in lending capacity from Relm to expand underwriting operations.[1]

Technology

[edit]

The company’s technology stack includes:

  • Cloud integrations: Read-only connections using AWS Assume Role with External ID and least-privilege IAM policies.[7]
  • Machine learning: Models that evaluate millions of purchase combinations to optimize strategies for commitments, renewals, and risk profiles.[9]
  • Dashboards and workflows: Tools such as Segment Planner, Segment Dashboard, and Infrastructure History for cost visualization and planning.[10]
  • Right-sizing: Recommendations based on AWS Compute Optimizer without directly altering infrastructure.[5]

Partnerships

[edit]

Archera transacts in the AWS Marketplace, Microsoft Marketplace, and Google Cloud Marketplace.[6] The company also participates in co-sell programs with Amazon, Microsoft and Google.[11] In June 2025, Archera announced a strategic partnership with CoreStack to integrate governance and optimization workflows.[12]
