First two chapters?

{{resolved}} of Cecily Duchess of York, ISBN 1474272258, by Pat Laynesmith. Pub. Bloomsbury this year. Possibly too new d'you think? If not, and anyone can oblige, I'd be most appreciative. Cheers! @Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi: Most of Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 can be seen here on Google Books. The only pages that are missing are: 16-17 for chapter 1 and 23-24, 30-31 for chapter 2. Also the author's first name is J.L. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 22:31, 18 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe, but in that case it's not very useful. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 20:23, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Jo-Jo Eumerus, it looks very likely to me, given that a) the account posting this on calameo.com is that of the Instituto Geológico Minero y Metalúrgico, b) not only the authors and titles, but also the publication dates match (2001), and c) the number of pages of that document also matches that provided in your citation (19). By the way, while checking I came across another publication with a similar title (and hence perhaps potentially relevant?): https://de.calameo.com/books/00082012974cacd8ad9be (abstract), which of course you may already be aware of. Page numbers for Bristol and Exeter Railway & Chard branch line

The articles Bristol and Exeter Railway & Chard branch line are fairly well referenced however many of the citations to books do not include the page numbers. As far as I can see the following books are not available through my local library (some may be out of print). I have requested copies of the other books cited without page numbers on the articles. Would anyone be able to identify the relevant page numbers?

  • Carter, E. F. (1959). An Historical Geography of the Railways of the British Isles. London: Cassell. (for Chard branch)
  • Cobb, Col. M. H. (2003). The Railways of Great Britain, A Historical Atlas. Shepperton: Ian Allan Publishing. ISBN 0-7110-3002-2.
  • MacDermot, E.T. (1927). History of the Great Western Railway. Vol I. London: Great Western Railway. (for B&E)
  • Nicholas, John; Reeve, George (2008). The Okehampton Line. Clophill: Irwell Press Ltd. ISBN 978-1-903266-13-7. (for B&E)
  • Owen, John (1985). The Exe Valley Railway including the Tiverton Branch. Southampton: Kingfisher Railway Productions. ISBN 0-946184-15-1. (for B&E)

Any help or pointers appreciated.— Rod talk 18:07, 29 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@GeeTeeBee: It's unlikely that any of the volunteers here will be able to supply what you want. For $5 the library will scan and email you a copy of up to five pages. The fee schedule is complicated, but pricing for larger orders is about $1 per page. (https://ahec.armywarcollege.edu/documents/FeeforServiceSchedule.pdf) Reproducing the whole volume might not be economical, but the cost of the pages related to the Dodge WC series might be worth it to you. If you fill out a research request (http://www.carlisle.army.mil/AHEC/forms/inquiries_customer.cfm) they should be able to quote an exact price. --Worldbruce (talk) 02:24, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Article in local Sheffield newspaper on football club

Payne L. (1998), Poles apart but on their way to the top, Green–Un, Sheffield Newspapers LTD, 31.11. p?? Is the only thing I know about it. Added in this revision. I need to figure out the page number. Peter Jalowiczor, the section on Personal Life, Football. --Nerd1a4i (talk) 21:48, 1 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Nerd1a4i: The British Library appears to have this on microfilm,[1] but it's the only WorldCat library that holds it. Your best bet might be to reach out to RX volunteers, such as Tom Morris or Miyagawa, who self-identify as having access to London libraries. Let them know it's for a Good Article review. If "31.11" is a simple typo for 31 October, 21 November, 30 November, or 1 December, they may be able to find it. If not, you may need to remove the information and partial citation from the article until a full citation or alternative source can be found. --Worldbruce (talk) 02:54, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Worldbruce, Nerd1a4i: I will request access to the 1998 editions of the Sheffield Star Green 'Un on my next visit to the British Library to check the reference. Fortunately, that should be on Wednesday of this week. The BL website says that it is held on-site at St Pancras so doesn't require pre-booking. (I'm glad to see the British Library have finally done away with the awkwardness of newspaper holdings only being available from Colindale rather than from St Pancras.) —Tom Morris (talk) 08:39, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Tom Morris: Thank you very much! I'm afraid that I don't actually know what "31.11" means; the citation was added by another user who does not seem to often come on Wikipedia, but I'm not sure what exactly it could be other than a date. Again, I really appreciate your help! (thanks also to Worldbruce) --Nerd1a4i (talk) 02:30, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nerd1a4i:  Fail I requested the microfilm today and went through from about October to early December of Green 'Un. I searched about thirteen editions of the newspaper during that period, each edition weighing in about 40 pages each. It took over an hour to search. I couldn't find the article in question, nor did I see anything obviously by "L. Payne"—most articles I looked at were not bylined. Google Books says the article is mentioned in 'Postcards from Millmoor', which looks like a self-published book by the subject of the article. If the person who added the reference to the article does not respond (might be worth giving them another nudge), one other solution might be to contact Mr Jalowiczor. If you do get an accurate citation of the article in question, I'm happy to take another look for it at the British Library. (I can confirm that once you've found something on microfilm, you can email a copy of the result to yourself.) Sorry I couldn't find it, but good luck in the search and feel free to ask on my talk page if you do manage to get a more accurate citation. —Tom Morris (talk) 14:59, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've marked the citation of this in Peter Jalowiczor with {{full citation needed}} and am marking this request complete. Tom Morris has gone above and beyond, and unfortunately there's no more we can do here so long as both date and page are missing. --Worldbruce (talk) 14:54, 7 April 2018 (UTC) {{done}}[reply]

Book ISBN

Does this book have an isbn? I tried copying it for The Last: Naruto the Movie based on the back but I was given a message of error.Tintor2 (talk) 23:04, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Tintor2: I was wondering if you got a chance to see these above ISBNS. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 22:36, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@MrLinkinPark333: I saw them but the book appears to be a German novelization of the movie. What I'm looking for is the ISBN of the Japanese guidebook.Tintor2 (talk) 23:05, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Tintor2, ISBN 978-88-912-5945-5 is an Italian ISBN of a 2016 Italian book (see here), so indeed probably not what you're looking for. As to the "ISBN" currently provided in the article, I would note that ISBNs must start with "978" or "979", followed by the country code (which presumably would be "4" in this case [Japan]). "4988104059925" doesn't fit either of these requirements. It is not an ISBN. According to other vendors (e.g., this one), it appears to be the article number (JAN). I must say I would also find it rather odd if such a brochure had an ISBN, which is supposed to be an identifier for books, so I am not surprised you (and I) can't find one. The brochure also cannot be found through the catalogue of the Japanese National Library. (Which, by the way, makes me doubt that it is really a reliable source per Wikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources#Definition of published ["Additionally, an archived copy of the media must exist"] - how would other people be able to review such a source?) Anyway, my short response to your question would simply be: No, I don't think so. Best, — Pajz (talk) 18:36, 6 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Tintor2: Great source for checking ISBNs and other metadata on books, DVDs, CDs, and some articles in library collections is Worldcat.org Clicking "Books" restricts search - no movies. Pasting in title from your Amazon-Japan link - The Last: Naruto the Movie - pops up listing showing Japanese ISBN of "Print book: Japanese" of 9784087033397 - Worldcat listing. You can click on Cite/Export to get a nice listing ready for you to simply add citation template tags, e.g., MLA format (which specifies this is indeed a printed book): "Kishimoto, Masashi, and Maruo Kyozuka. Za Rasuto: Naruto Za Muvi. Shueisha, 2014. Print." -- Paulscrawl (talk) 20:33, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Paulscrawl, what you are referring to is a 224-page book, which, according to Ebay, Abebooks and Amazon looks like this. The book(let)/brochure described on the Amazon page that Tintor2 linked to looks very different and is described there as "映画パンフレット" (which Google translates as "movie brochure"; in our article, the author called it a "Program Guide"). Additionally, if you search for the JAN (4988104059925) erroneously stated as its ISBN in our article, you'll find at least two vendors that describe the work as having 40 pages (e.g., https://www.suruga-ya.jp/kaitori_detail/185130790). So I don't think that your ISBN fits the document asked about here. Best, — Pajz (talk) 18:26, 8 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I stand corrected, thank you, Pajz. Covers often change even with same ISBN, but in this case page count and description clearly don't match. That 4988... number is certainly not an ISBN , as you noted above, but more likely a product number. Some vendors precede that number with a 'T' and also I've seen 'VHTF' (Very Hard to Find) as in VHTF T4988104059925. ISBN for commercial tie-in pamphlet unlikely, esp. as you can't find in Japanese National Library and it certainly isn't in Worldcat. I concur with you, all told, probably not a verifiable source for Wikipedia article. @Tintor2:, perhaps its factual content is reliably sourced elsewhere. -- Paulscrawl (talk) 19:32, 8 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm kind of confused. Especially with this image. Could it be that some books don't have ISBNs? I mean viewers going to watch The Last and Boruto were given guidebooks like this one.Tintor2 (talk) 19:56, 8 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Tintor2:, as a long-time bookseller I can say definitively that many books do not have ISBNs and are still distributed. ISBNs cost money, time and trouble. Product tie-ins, such as a movie or concert guides, are frequently published without ISBNs. Product numbers, as I suspect in this case, are frequently used in their place, but even those are not universal. Shoddy metadata is the rule in secondary marketplaces like Ebay, Amazon, etc. and not infrequent even in Worldcat, which is simply a huge variety of catalog librarians' concerted efforts to describe their library's individual holdings. The fact that these movie guides were "given" to ticket buyers at movie showings argues that their commercial purpose was to build fandom, not to be sold in bookstores, so registering for an ISBN would have served the movie producer no benefit. -- Paulscrawl (talk) 20:17, 8 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Tintor2: The UPC barcode symbol you see in the first image you linked just above is not an ISBN. It would be used to track inventory. In the case of books that actually have a registered ISBN a UPC usually closely matches the ISBN. -- Paulscrawl (talk) 20:32, 8 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ministry overall and, exactly, Twitch (Ministry album)

{{resolved}} Hello. I'm looking for three sources on the articles in question:

  1. Chirazi, Steffan (1994). Faith No More: The Real Story. Castle Communications. ISBN 9781898141150.. There is an excerpt from this Faith No More bio, which is cited on Prongs.org and is featuring FNM's performance with Ministry during the latter's Twitch tour. I have to clarify the pages which contain text in question.
  2. A review on Twitch from the 1986 issue Musician Magazine. I’m not sure which exact issue features a review in question, as it's only available through scanned fragments on Google Books.
  3. Fricke, David (April 18, 1991). "An Earful of Wax". Rolling Stone. No. 602. ISSN 0035-791X.

Also I would like to see a Ministry entry in Spin Alternative Record Guide, as it don't seems to be available in full on both Google Books and Internet Archive. That's it. From Russia with love, Gleb95 (talk) 14:21, 21 March 2018 (UTC).[reply]

International Directory of Company Histories, Vol. 192 (2017)

{{resolved}}

I'm looking for the profile on Weight Watchers in the International Directory of Company Histories, volume 192 (2017), pp. 465–470. (Article being improved: Weight Watchers.)

The International Directory of Company Histories content is offered via Gale Cengage and is available to most academic students/teachers.

I'd welcome a PDF or Google doc of those seven pages from 2017. Thanks! My email is softlavenderwiki@gmail.com
