Category:Fathers of Medicare

Nominator's rationale: Category for a non-defining characteristic. These people did not work together collectively to develop Canada's health insurance system, but rather each acted on their own in some capacity in different political bodies at different times, so they don't constitute a defined or organized group that get covered or analyzed in aggregate -- "father of medicare" is just a term that some of them have been labelled with, not an encyclopedically notable concept. Even the "head" article is based entirely on sources that individually ascribe the people with that term rather than sources which cover them all together as a group, so it doesn't demonstrate that there's a categorizable concept here either. Delete all except Lists of things named after mathematicians. Both the intent of this group nomination and the "substantive rationale" are exactly the same as in the first nomination. To save others the time of following links I'll copy it again here:
Not defining. A huge number of topics in mathematics are named after mathematicians; it is not a distinguishing characteristic of these topics. This and the subhierarchy under it were created in 2023 by an editor who was subsequently blocked for creating spurious categories, DinosaursLoveExistence (talk · contribs), and has been recently populated by 185.100.88.213 (talk · contribs), whose contributions appear to be primarily or only adding to categories created by the blocked editor. The parent category, Category:Eponyms, has text warning against this exact type of category: "Since many medical conditions, sports moves, bridge and chess techniques, buildings, prizes, and other things have been named after people, these are not included in this category, as categorization on the basis of having been named for a person is considered to be overcategorization based on trivial aspects of the article."
As for "Lists of things named after mathematicians": both the first nomination discussion and its post-close discussion clearly state that this category is ok and should not be deleted. I do not know why the nominator chose to ignore this part of the request and do not think this category should be deleted. —David Eppstein (talk) 21:04, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The hierarchy of Category:Mass media uses "mass" except for War and the media, Works about the media and its subcats.
