This is a stub that is unlikely to get expanded beyond a mere dictionary definition in the near future. On top of that, there is evidence that "drop-in replacement" is used for components of systems unrelated to computing, so even accepting the broadest sense of the term could see the article becoming wildly unfocused. Speaking of dictionaries, this article can probably be soft-redirected to a Wiktionary term for drop-in, which at sense 2 aptly and satisfactorily articulates the meaning in ways an encyclopedia cannot at the moment.
