    Why are articles about Japanese entertainment media lumped into one big article but other countries' articles are split up per entry?

    As an example, look up any anime on Wikipedia (Beastars, for example): It will most certainly direct you to the manga page with tiny sub-sections about any adaptations into other media like OVAs, Anime TV series', Video Games, etc and if there is a separate page, it's usually only a list of episodes and only because the episode list is "long".

    Now do the same with any other media made anywhere else, I'll use Mortal Kombat as it's relevant right now with the 2021 movie coming out. Searching "Mortal Kombat" brings you to the franchise page but each and every type of derived media: every video game, movie, TV series, Music Album, and Comic book series has its own page.

    Why isn't Japanese media treated the same? When searching, I want to get a high-level overview about the TV show: how it was produced, the history, etc; but when the article is structured so it's 99% about the manga with "here's an episode list of the Anime that was produced years later" that isn't helpful at all and very frustrating/infuriating. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:8081:1610:E059:B1D7:26E6:4100:B8F9 (talk) 04:11, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    The English Wikipedia often has more coverage of English-language franchises than of other languages but here are some TV series articles based on manga: Bleach (TV series), Dragon Ball (TV series), JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (TV series), One Piece (TV series), Fullmetal Alchemist (TV series), Attack on Titan (TV series), Sailor Moon (TV series), Berserk (1997 TV series), Berserk (2016 TV series).     I'd like to delete my account Ozzykozzy2 and any associated data.     Ozzykozzy2, Wikipedia can't delete accounts because edits like this one have to be attributed to something. As far as I can tell, this is the only edit you've ever made on this account, so the easiest thing to do would be to just abandon the account.     The first result on the Google search current caliph of islam is Mirza Masroor Ahmad and displays: "Mirza Masroor Ahmad (Urdu: مرزا مسرور احمد‎; born 15 September 1950) is the current and fifth leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. His official title within ...". That's a completely acceptable search result when the sentence also contains "Caliph" a few words later. The problem is not with Google or Wikipedia but the people who get upset over this because they are clueless about how search engines work, or want censorship of anything that disagrees with their religious beliefs.     How can I ask the Wikipedia community for an opinion on the publication of an encyclopedic entry?

    Hi, I have inserted the encyclopedic entry "Gianfranco Continenza" in my Sandbox (here). He is a jazz-fusion author and composer.     I think the article may well be accepted after you submit it Max Peltuinum. However, I found some of it a bit irrelevant. Do we really need to know (first line of biography), that he listened to a long list of well-known musicians. Didn't we all do that in our youth? And did he really have so many teachers and influencers? Notability (in a Wikipedia sense) is not inherited from these people so perhaps the focus should be only on the most significant one(s) mentioned in the sources. Good luck.     @Michael D. Turnbull: Hi. Thanks for your help. I think you are right about the musicians he listened to when he was young. I included them because I think they could help better describe the multifaceted style of this musician: he is a predominantly jazz-fusion guitarist (he learned jazz from his father and then studied at the Musicians Institute), but he also recorded on funk, rock and heavy metal music records (genres he has loved since he was a kid). In any case, if this information appears redundant, I agree with you that it is best avoided. As for his teachers, however, they were actually those listed (all musicians from the Musicians Institute). He has maintained constant relationships with most of them throughout his musical career, both professionally and personally. Many of them have collaborated on his solo albums, and with many others he has recorded compilations. This is also reflected in the references. Obviously, even in this case, if the information appears redundant it is definitely necessary to avoid it. I'd advise submitting it for review, which should trigger more experienced editors to take a look. You can still work on it while it is waiting (it can take a while).     J.Turner99, please don't waste the community's time by trying to get that RfA to show up at WP:RfA. With <1,000 edits, you would have no chance of being accepted, even if it were a serious request. You have been topic banned; your requested a review of the ban, it was reviewed and upheld.     J.Turner99 I too strongly suggest that you abandon this effort. Wikipedia is not a government with laws and due process- though we try to be fair. Free speech only means that the government cannot jail you for your speech- not that you can force Wikipedia to allow you to say what you wish. Do you provide for due process and fair trials and free speech with setting policies and guidelines in your residence? As a private entity, Wikipedia can determine what content is on its computers and how it gets there using any means it sees fit.     Editing dates on references

    Hello, I am getting errors on my access dates and page ranges on my references. I have access the help page but it is very confusing to me. Can you please help me?

    Not a glitch. |access-date= is the date that |url= was observed to support the content of the en.wiki article. |access-date= applies only to the value in |url=. When there is no url, |access-date= is meaningless.

    Ispiration for edits

    You could look at a series of articles about things that interest you,such as places you have lived in or books you have read. Somewhere there will be spelling mistakes or mistakes in grammar.There could be important facts missed out that you have the sources to add. I found that the article on a town I knew had nothing about an important industry which had existed there and which had left its mark on the town. I had a book on the subject and was able to add a paragraph about it.This all leads on to more things that you find you could improve or correct.     Trial of the Chicago 7 Missing Awards

    Who ever is in charge of editing the Trial of the Chicago 7 movie page is missing a bunch of the guild awards in the awards section. Trial got top ten films at the PGA, top ten films at the AFI, Director Guild, and an ASC nomination for cinematography.     There is no specific editor "in charge" of any article. You have the same rights and responsibilities for correcting that article as any other editor. If you are not comfortable editing the article yourself, please make an {{edit request}} on the article's talk page.     @DiamondRemley39: Do you want to publish the translations in the English Wikipedia? That would be unsuitable unless you mean short extracts from the reviews.     Editing my entry in Wikipedia

    I have just spent 3 hours editing my entry in Wikipedia, to correct factual errors and omissions. I then clicked on 'Publish', as there was no option to 'Save' visible anywhere .... but when I subsequently checked my entry in Wikipedia to see my corrections, none of them had registered.     Which article was this? (There's no sign here that you've edited anywhere other than on this page.) But whichever the article, you shouldn't edit it directly; you should instead edit its talk page, saying there which changes you'd like to have made to the article, and why.     If you are given the option to "Publish" and click on this, then what you have is normally saved. You will get an error message if you attempt to "Publish" a version that includes links to websites that are blacklisted (because of attempts to spam links to them, because they routinely flout others' copyright, etc); you won't be given the impression that your attempt to "Publish" was successful. -- Hoary (talk) 08:23, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    Greenwich Road "Publish Changes" should be interpreted to simply mean "Save Changes". The button used to say save changes, but it was changed to emphasize that all saved edits are visible to the public(such as this page). As Hoary aptly notes, you should avoid directly editing the article about you, but you may make a formal edit request on the talk page, detailing changes you feel are needed, along with any reliable sources to support them. 331dot (talk) 08:31, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you were not logged in then there is a chance your changes were saved but reverted and can be seen by clicking the "View history" tab, or that the changes actually are in the article but you need to bypass your cache to see them.     "Vandalism" is behaviour which is "deliberately intended to obstruct or defeat the project's purpose", while "disruptive editing" is disruptive in effect though not in intention. Maproom (talk) 15:18, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    What is the relevant notability criterion/guideline when it comes to scientific topics, like proteins, chemical reactions, various reagents, etc.?     I assume both are just considered under GNG, but it would be helpful to know of any consensus discussions since these topics are more nuanced than the "RS coverage" anticipated by GNG criteria.     There is general advice for chemistry at WP:NCHEM, JoelleJay. Most scientific Projects are pretty active, so for specific cases you could post a suggestion at a Project Talk page before starting to draft a new article.     Citing source without unique URL

    I have a question about citing a particular online webpage. I want to cite an online database of Colorado high-school championships to update an article about a school's athletic records. However, the only way to see the records for a specific school is by doing a search for the school on the webpage itself. This means there isn't a unique URL for the school's record -- only a URL for the database itself. How should I go about citing this? It would help a lot with cleaning up the entry for the school, but I want to make sure users are able to accurately find the exact source of my info.

If the URL is insufficient, then add the needed "recipe" for finding it.     How do you report a bad editor?

    There is a lot of back and forth between the editors on the pages for both “counting on” and “19 kids and counting”. People will go in and make updates and add information and then other editors will CONTINUOUSLY remove it because they PERSONALLY feel the information shouldn’t be available. Wikipedia is an information site - having users take information down because they don’t agree with it being on there is INEXCUSABLE. There is no option to report the editors who continue to delete information and previous edits. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. Checking out the edit history associated with that account showed a variety of small contributions which are interesting but not supported by discussion or sources.     Hi Dr Salvus Yes, there are a variety of bots that fix a variety of errors, with a few of them errors that could be characterized as "grammatical" – but not "deeply"; writing is too "bespoke"; too dependent on context for anything but a super-complex AI to make more than superficial fixes of this nature, for clear cut cases. For example, some bots will go around fixing "they was", but you can see by that example how clearly defined and self-contained such an error must be.     I don't really understand what you're getting at. It sounds like you're interpreting COI without really taking in the natural meaning of the words. A conflict of interest essentially means what the words mean in English in conjunction, and is not some stand in for "bad edits". A person has a conflict of interest in writing a neutral article when their "interest" ("An involvement, claim, right, share, stake in or link with a financial, business, or other undertaking or endeavor.") "conflicts" ("A clash or disagreement...") with writing neutrally—just as, for example, a lawyer has a "conflict of interest" in representing a client neutrally if they actually have an interest in not hurting the person on the other side of the legal matter because of a prior relationship with them (or an interest in the subject matter, where their own interests would be affected, that keeps them from truly neutrally representing that client). So, a person writing about a town, who is doing so to sneak in their links to a tourist website, has a COI.     @Dr Salvus: It's a standard message displayed on all js pages in your userspace if you edit them. Most users just ignore it and there are around 77,000 js pages in userspace. Interface administrators can also edit sitewide js which is loaded by all users with JavaScript. If you are really paranoid about security then don't create js pages and consider disabling JavaScript in your browser, but the latter would mean you cannot use gadgets and many other Wikipedia features.     Hey, Davey2010! Don't worry, your question isn't in the least bit! I'm not quite sure about a tool to specifically find redirects, but there is a way to see every article that links to whichever article you choose. Go to the article, then on the left, under the "Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia" logo, there is a list of functions, and one of those says "What links here."     Hi, I'm watching a page that had a proposed for deletion template added. The template was removed and then re-added by another user. The guidance on the template says that "If this template is removed, do not replace it." If the template is, in fact, replaced, how should one proceed? Thank you.     Hi kwami. Only developers have access to your watchlist. Administrators can't even view it, much less delete it. If you go to Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-watchlist there is a link for Clear your watchlist but there you can also click on Edit raw watchlist, which should allows you to edit it without timing out.     What you may be able to do is upload the image locally (to en-Wikipedia, not Commons) if it meets all the non-free content criteria. This means no car photograph, for instance (a similar photograph could be taken in the street and released under a free license, which means a copyrighted photo does not satisfy WP:NFCC #1).     Editor quoting fake news articles as sources

    I have an issue. There is an editor that is quoting fake news articles as a reference source. What is the wikipedia rule, that deals with this. Can you provide the link. It is a page about a living person. The person said something in an interview. There is a video link. The thing he said is very clear, and unambiguous. Like saying the sky is blue. Now some media outlets, twisted his words and publish fake news articles saying "he is saying the sky is green".

    And a wikipedia editor, adds this "he is saying the sky is green" to his wiki bio page, quoting this fake news articles. And the wikipedia editor comes clean as "look media outlets are saying this, here are the references".

    Some news media have twisted this statement, as if he is saying "Bulgaria and Macedonia are the same country" [popular idea among the greater expansionist bulgaria nationalists]

    And a wikipedia editor keeps adding here this quote "according to him, there is a country that is divided into two parts, and he was born on the "other side" - quoting the fake news articles. While he has stated nothing even remotely like that.

    Problem with picture

    Dear helpers,

    I tried to fix a problem with a picture here: Olaf_II_of_Norway#Christianising

    The image is not displayed in the article (at least not in my browser). I thought, maybe the file name was mistyped and copied it from Commons. On preview, the file showed as hoped, so I saved the edit. Only to find, that the [[File:Bischofstab Norwegen 1375-1400.JPG|thumb|upright|St Olaf with his axe on a bishop's crozier, walrus ivory, Norway c.1375–1400 (Victoria and Albert Museum)]] is still there in the article ...

    Hello. First of all, I would ask you who is included in "we". If by "We" you mean Nas' publicity team, please carefully read and follow the instructions for paid editors. Second of all, edit requests should be made on the talk page of the affected article. Assuming you are a paid editor, you can make such requests by typing "{{request edit}}" (with the brackets), and then following it by explaining the changes you want made in a "change X to Y" format, and citing your sources. If you take that route, be patient as the edit request queue is severely backlogged.
    Regarding the mention of the album's Grammy win, I would say it is currently at the top, as it is currently in the article's lead section. Assuming you are Nas's publicity team, you probably want it mentioned more prominently, such as the second sentence. However, the lead is currently structured chronologically, discussing first the album's release, then the reaction of critics, and then the Grammy win. Moving the Grammy win before the album's release doesn't make sense given the article's current structure.     Archiving of Photography workshop

    It's no big deal but I've just noticed that the archiving of the Photography workshop, which is supposed to be filed by calendar month, is messed up. So far there's nothing filed under Mar 2021. I found what I was looking for erroneously filed at Feb 2021, where only the first entry was properly filed. It's a similar story for Jan 2021, where only the first 4 are filed correctly. If anyone here knows how to fix it please do, although it's not a pressing issue. Looking at the code this may be a wider problem with ClueBot III.     If you click on the photograph you are interested in, then click on "More Details" you will be taken to its page on Commons. That page will give you more information about the photograph, along with a link to the user talk page of the person who uploaded it (this person may or may not be the photographer - in the case of most of the images on that page, it appears to be). Cliking on the link to their user talk page takes you to a page where you can leave messages for them. In the case of most images on that page it would be Commons:User talk:JBThomas4. I will say, JBThomas4 does not appear to have edited in some time. Their last edit was here on the English Wikipedia in 2016, so they may not see your message right away (or ever). It looks like they were a student editing Wikipedia as part of a class project, so they may not return. Sometimes people will have e-mail enabled, but it looks like JBThomas4 does not.     My Experience

    My introductory experience in attempting to participate in Wikipedia collaborations is that it is rather punitive where contributions are unwelcome. When I brought something up on a discussion page, it warranted no discussion. But when I made a change to that piece of information of concern in the actual article, it was immediately reverted with a sort of insolence, even though I had provided a widely used and confidently neutral data set to contest what was there. Leaving a concern on a talk page is good but, for many articles, talk pages are scarcely viewed and your concern may not be responded to for a long time, unfortunately. You did only wait 3 days... Anyways, I see your concern on Talk:San Salvador and the edit you made, which was initially reverted. The editor claimed it was unconstructive, but I don't actually see why it was considered unconstructive. This may have just been an error. I see you also tried to address the editor who made this reversion, but they are very unlikely to check for a reply as they likely do this hundreds of times. If you want to address someone directly, you can type {{ping|USERNAME}} to automatically give them a notification to check for a reply. I think Wikipedia is a great place once you get to know it and, I'll admit, we editors are sometimes quick to wrongly assume new editor's intentions. Don't be discouraged.
