Karl Legris (French pronunciation: [kaʁl ləɡʁi]; born December 23, 2003), known professionally as ZephyrMusic, is a French musician, actor, singer-songwriter, and record producer. He is known for his covers, for his musical repertoire which contains a large number of music genres, and for his ability to play despite his developmental coordination disorder.[1][2]

ZephyrMusic began his career as a musician in 2022 with the New York music company TuneCore, where singer Ed Sheeran also got his start.[3]

Early life and education

[edit]

Karl Legris was born on December 23, 2003, in Maubeuge, France.[4] He is the son of Céline Legris, and Éric Legris, an athlete specializing in running races.[5] Legris has a close relationship with his maternal grandparents, Annie-Claude, and Jean-Jacques.

He attended Anne Godeau Elementary School in Bachant. He learned music theory and to play musical instruments such as the trombone, violin, guitar and piano at the Hautmont music school.[1]

He attended the Jessé de Forest High School in Avesnes-sur-Helpe where he obtained a scientific baccalaureate. He studied medicine at the Henri Warembourg Faculty of Medicine at the University of Lille.[6]

Career

[edit]

He began his career in 2022, and at the age of eighteen under the stage name ZephyrMusic, a word play meaning a gentle and pleasant wind. Since his beginnings, he has been publishing his music with TuneCore, an American music company located in the Brooklyn borough of New York City.[2]

He mainly does piano covers of songs, he notably did a cover of the song "Mistral gagnant" by Renaud, his cover was well received and described as "the ultimate soundtrack".[7] At his debut, in less than a year, his music had already been listened to in more than 90 different countries and added to 600 playlists on Spotify.[2]

He owns and creates high-quality replicas such as the Wayne Enterprises briefcase, Bruce Wayne's handwritten message, and the World War I vintage photo which represents Wonder Woman portrayed by Gal Gadot and Steve Trevor portrayed by Chris Pine, all of which are visible in the introduction to the film Wonder Woman. He sometimes creates videos where he mixes music and cinema using replicas and costumes to recreate the atmosphere seen in films, series, and video games related to the music played.[2]

He announced the release of his debut album Love n Covers for 2025 during an interview for the American magazine Shoutout LA in 2024.[8] He dedicates the album to his grandfather Jean-Jacques, who died in 2020 from COVID-19.[1]

Musical style

[edit]

ZephyrMusic doesn't have a defined musical genre, he can play rock, jazz or classical music, but his music is generally pop. Some of his covers come from video games like Animal Crossing and Luigi's Mansion, while the majority of his covers are popular songs like "Firework" by Katy Perry, "Just Give Me a Reason" by P!nk, "Imagine" by John Lennon, and "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen.[2]

Influences

[edit]

ZephyrMusic has cited American pianist Marcus Veltri, American violinist Rob Landes, and Ukrainian violinist Karolina Protsenko as musical influences. He has also been influenced by Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars, and Vianney.

Philanthropy

[edit]

Legris volunteers at the Restaurants du Cœur and other associations.[9]

Personal life

[edit]

He had an Australian Shepherd named Merlin, who died at the age of 6 on September 16, 2024. To pay tribute to his dog, he posted a video featuring photos and videos retracing Merlin's life, including a piano cover of Ed Sheeran's song "Photograph".[10]

In addition to French, he speaks English and Italian. He regularly rides his bike, sometimes for long distances. His favorite part of Los Angeles is the Venice neighborhood, especially Venice Beach and the Venice Beach Boardwalk. He also loves the cities of Santa Monica, New York City, and Venice.[6]
