Yatinder Singh is an Indian bodybuilder, entrepreneur and fitness icon. His most recent accomplishments include the gold medal in 15th World Body Building and Physique Championship 2024 85 kg category[1] and Mr. Asia 2022.[2]

Early life

[edit]

Yatinder Singh was born on December 25, 1982, in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, to Ravinder and Mesho Singh. Raised in a large joint family of 20-30 members, he grew up in an environment that valued hard work and dedication. Encouraged by his parents, he pursued both academics and sports.

Born on a special date, his family believed he was destined for greatness – a belief he later fulfilled by making not just his family but the entire nation proud.

As a child, Yatinder had a lean physique and dark complexion, often facing criticism that impacted his self-esteem and led to an inferiority complex. To provide better education and a nurturing environment, his parents enrolled him at Kirpal Sagar Academy near Nabha, Punjab, around 1997-98.

During his time at the academy, he actively participated in sports and quickly made a name for himself as a talented athlete. He regularly competed in 100-meter and 200-meter sprints, as well as the javelin throw. Known as the fastest sprinter in his academy, Yatinder competed at both district and national levels.[3][4]

In 2000, Yatinder returned to Saharanpur and completed his graduation from Maharaj Singh College.

Career

[edit]

Start of the Bodybuilding Journey

[edit]

The hostel at Kirpal Sagar Academy, where Yatinder enrolled for higher studies, introduced a small gym facility- his first encounter with a gym. Initially unimpressed, he believed the same exercises could easily be done outdoors.

At the time, the hostel rules barred junior students (9th – 10th grade) from using the gym. But, Yatinder known for his persistence, began sneaking in. When discovered, he was severely punished by the warden. [5] [6]

Even after clearing his 10th board and becoming eligible, he found the hostel’s gym rules restrictive – only 30 minutes of use per day and a complete shutdown on weekends. Frustrated, he chose not to enroll as an official gym member.

Yatinder Singh had always dreamt of being in the spotlight. For him, bodybuilding became the means to achieve that dream, a path to recognition and self-worth.[7]

After clearing his 10th grade in 2000, Yatinder made a pivotal decision. He left the hostel and instead returned to his hometown, Saharanpur. It was there, at the age of 16, that he began his fitness journey in earnest. This marked the true beginning of his bodybuilding career.[5]

The Beginning of Becoming...

[edit]

Yatinder Singh began his bodybuilding journey under the guidance of Mr. Asad Nafiz, who ran a modest gym but possessed immense knowledge, experience, and an impressive physique. Yatinder stood out from other aspiring bodybuilders early with his exceptionally developed forearms. [8]

After a year of training, Yatinder won his first shield at an inter-gym contest. Motivated by this small yet thrilling victory, he began preparing for the Mr. Saharanpur 2001 Competition in the 70 kg category. However, being under-prepared against stronger opponents, he didn’t secure a position, but the experience fueled his passion even more. [6] [8]

The Bodybuilding Star

[edit]

After a year of dedicated training, Yatinder claimed the overall championship title of Mr. Saharanpur 2002, marking the beginning of his bodybuilding journey. [9]

By 2004, Yatinder Singh had become a brand in himself and was the talk of the town. The thing that made him stand out was that his body exhibited perfect symmetry. In the 2004 Federation Cup, 20-year-old Yatinder stunned everyone by defeating 32-year-old Asia silver Medalist Jagjit in the 75 kg category. His impressive transformation earned him a special award for Best Improved Bodybuilder, introduced by the Indian Body Building Federation (IBBF) President. Recognizing his potential, the IBBF President nominated Yatinder Singh to represent India at Mr. Asia 2005 in Sri Lanka. [8]

Major Injury

[edit]

Singh had started preparing for Mr. Asia 2005.[6] One evening while working out, he was seriously injured due to the negligence of a helping boy. Singh's lower back vertebrae had ruptured causing nerve injuries. His right hand and leg about 30 percent paralyzed. As a result, he was bedridden for months.[8]

Singh had to stay away from bodybuilding for the next three years.[6] To become financially independent, he soon started working as a personal trainer in a gym in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. In 2008, he moved to Gurgaon to pursue his career as a businessman.[10] There, he opened his first gym and named it OTwo Gym and Spas, and soon it came to be known as the finest gym in gurugram.

Second Chance in Bodybuilding

[edit]

By 2008, Singh's back had recovered substantially and he returned to bodybuilding.[11] He started researching and studying techniques that would help him work out without straining himself.[10] He completed ACE and ACSM training courses. Finally, in 2010, Singh made his way to stage again, In this year he won several championships such as Mr. UP Overall title, Mr. North India, Senior Mr. India title in 75  kg category. He was also the first runner-up in the overall Sr. Mr. India and won the title of the Best Improved Bodybuilder.[8]

The year 2015 completely turned around Yatinder's career, and he had finally become one of the nation's best. He again participated in the World Championship 2015 held in Thailand and bagged silver at the event. He then went on to win many more national and international titles.[12][13][14]

Beyond Bodybuilding: Inspiring Through YouTube

[edit]

Beyond the competitive stage, Yatinder Singh is on a mission to inspire and educate the next generation of fitness enthusiasts, especially those from Tier-2 cities, towns, and villages where access to proper guidance is limited.[25]

Recognizing the widespread use of mobile phones, in 2019, just before the lockdown, he launched his YouTube channel YatinderSinghOfficial to offer free, accessible fitness education. When the pandemic struck, he continued to guide people on how to stay fit and healthy from home.

From beginner workouts to muscle-building tips and vegetarian diet plans, Singh’s YouTube channel provides practical, reliable knowledge to help young athletes build a strong foundation in a way that makes expert guidance available to all, regardless of their background or location.[26]

From Athlete to Entrepreneur

[edit]

Throughout his bodybuilding journey, Singh had consumed a wide range of supplements, but consistently found one thing lacking: truly effective, well-formulated products in the Indian market. During the 2020 lockdown, this realization pushed him to take action. With a vision to create a homegrown brand that could meet the real needs of athletes and fitness enthusiasts alike, 2X Nutrition was born.

After 2 years of developing and planning, 2X Nutrition was officially unveiled in June 2022 at the International Health, Sports, and Fitness Festival (IHFF) 2022 and became fully operational on July 4, 2022.

Driven by the vision to revolutionize the wellness industry, Yatinder designed the brand to meet modern health needs through a diverse range of science-backed, high-quality, rigorously tested supplements made in India.[27]

What sets 2X Nutrition apart is its unwavering commitment to purity, transparency, and efficacy, free from banned substances and built on customer trust.

Yatinder’s goal is to elevate the global perception of Indian-made wellness products.
