Wasn't "Wet Trout Slap" done earlier?
[edit]1979-1985 i was heavy into BBS's and i was sure i had slapped a couple before i went homeless... after my TRaSh-80 was "stolen" (get out... can't carry it? Boo Hoo!) didn't replace access until IRC was invented so decades may have clouded my mind but if my life had depended on it I'd have sworn it existed before 1986 AD Qazwiz (talk) 18:22, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
Question about acceptable fish
[edit]Are other fish such as salmon acceptable for whacking users? Thanks. owuh (talk | she/her) 22:41, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
Better phrasing
[edit]"A 1971 Monty Python sketch called "The Fish-Slapping Dance" may be partly to blame"
I feel like "partly to blame" is not particularly encyclopedic wording, and could also be seen as not being neutral. But given that this is a humorous article I do want to toss this into the talk page, I'd rather not go against consensus if one exists about the language of this article. This really isn't done much by experienced editors any more
[edit]I propose we rewrite this to describe it as something that was common in the past but not really used much any more. This is almost exclusively used by clueless/new/young editors, many of whom are probably just wp:NOTHERE. I have seen multiple of these editors argue 'why is it there if you don't want people to use it.' I feel like this shouldn't be presented as something that is "common".
