Suggested cleanup

[edit]

The policy as written is a bit tough to parse in places. I'm considering five places in which the policy can be rewritten less awkwardly, but wanted to get some more input before I make any further changes

  • To revert is to undo the action of another editor. The three-revert rule states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts, in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material, on a single page within a 24-hour period. --> To revert is to undo the action of another editor, in whole or in part. The three-revert rule states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts, whether involving the same or different material, on a single page within a 24-hour period. --> While this reads easier, it does change the meaning subtly, with a revert now defined as including partial reverts in general, rather than mostly for the 3RR case.
  • Wikipedia encourages editors to be bold, but while a potentially controversial change may be made to find out whether it is opposed, another editor may revert it. can be worded more elegantly as Wikipedia encourages editors to be bold — even when making potentially controversial changes — but such edits may be reverted if others disagree
  • Nevertheless, not every revert or controversial edit is regarded as edit warring: -> not every revert is seen as edit warring. Not sure which controversial non-reverts are seen as edit warring?
  • The term "page" in the three-revert rule above is defined as any page on Wikipedia, including those in talk and project spaces. The term "revert" is defined as any edit (or administrative action) that reverses or undoes the actions of other editors, in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material, and whether performed using undo, rollback, or done so completely manually. -> By talking about administrative action in the 3RR section, it implies that 3RR is relevant, rather than the stricter wheel warring policy.
  • According to WP:Administrators, "Administrators should not normally use their tools in matters in which they are personally involved (for example, in a content dispute in which they are a party)." --> Change this to Uninvolved as the start of the previous paragraph. Needless repetition of a foundational policy. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 07:00, 8 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
