Question 7: protected talk page
[edit]@John Cline: and Zad68, thank you for refreshing memories on that issue. Both Talk:Autism and Talk:Causes of autism were affected by that long-standing DIDNTHEARTHAT dynamic IP (follow links starting here). IIRC, somewhere in one of those discussions, someone suggested we should have an FAQ or something at the top of those talk pages to instruct IPs on how to request an edit. I was extremely busy all summer and hadn't around gotten to that-- is there a possibility someone will develop a template? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:20, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
- I'd be happy to follow up on this myself, if anybody can point me where to start. I think we have to request some sort of new Editnotice? Not 100% sure. Anybody here know? If not I'll start off asking at WP:VPT, I bet somebody there might know at least where to start asking.

In other words, do we need a template, or do we need an FAQ? I'm not sure ... wondering what is the best solution, hoping for more eyes on the question. - It seems a shame to allow this one autism-focused individual to sideline an attempt to make a relevant notice available to IP editors at all the other Talk pages that might be protected, now and in the future. It might be possible that we can do both: get an appropriate Editnotice or template applied everywhere else but leave things alone for the affected pages discussed in the autism ANI threads. We're getting pretty far afield for this particular venue, maybe we should move this somewhere else where people who might know will find it relevant?

- Perhaps discuss at CAT:EP because the category CAT:EP is where the protected-edits would be listed, or might flood the category with spam requests.
- On that talk-page, seek advice for writing a template or FAQ page which could explain the protected edits but also discourage spam requests which would clutter that category. People there are likely to know tactics to reduce frivilous requests. Does that make sense? -Wikid77 (talk) 04:52, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
