Bob Doletimate Soccby is a sport that was invented in Hindman, KY. It combines the sports of Bob Dole (see below), [[Ultimate (sport) |Ultimate Frisbee]], soccer, and an alteration on the game of rugby. It is generally played on about a 15° incline, with a forward boundary, a backward boundary, and only one side boundary.
The individual sports
[edit]Bob Dole (sport)
[edit]The game of Bob Dole, named after the Republican senator, was also invented in Hindman. It is a very simple sport: several people run around in any unorganized fashion, and whenever somebody says “Bob Dole”, everybody else tries to tackle that person. There is no scoring involved, and it is generally played simply for recreational purposes.
Ultimate Frisbee
[edit]‘‘‘Ultimate Frisbee’’’, or simply ‘‘‘Ultimate’’’, is a sport involving a flying disc generally weighing 175 grams, a field, and two teams. Each team’s objective is to get the flying disc to their scoring end of the field without allowing the other team to do the same. While holding the flying disc, players may not move, they may only pass the disc. If the disc is dropped, possession goes to the other team. Possession also goes to the other team in the event of an interception. Generally when a team scores, the teams switch sides of the field.
Soccer
[edit]‘‘‘Soccer’’’ is a sport in which players, assembled into two teams, attempt to knock a ball into their goal while preventing the other team from doing the same. With the exception of the goalie, and only while the goalie is within certain boundaries, players may not touch the ball with their arms or hands. Any other part of the body (feet, legs, chest, head, etc.) is allowed contact with the ball.
Rugby
[edit]‘‘‘Rugby’’’ is a game in which the object is to get the ball over the line on the opposite side of the field. When you have the ball, you may run with it or you may pass it, but no forward passes are allowed. Players prevent the opposing team from scoring by tackling the players. When one team scores, an there is an opportunity for extra points by kicking the ball through a set of uprights. Wherever the team crosses the line with the ball, a line is drawn parallel to the sidelines to the point from which the team kicks for the extra points. Americans still have not figured out how to keep score.
Combining the four
[edit]The necessary equipment is as follows:
- Goal markers (2 goals necessary)
- Flying disc (Frisbee)
- Soccer ball
- Field, preferably with a 15° incline (Boundaries exist at two end lines and one at the bottom of the hill, but players may move as far up the hill as one likes, keeping in mind that the further up the hill a player goes, the further from their goal the player becomes)
Each team gets:
- One goalie
- An equal number of other players
Teams can take handicaps by either having fewer players than the other team or by designating some players “ball only” or “disc only.”
As in three of the four sports, the first thing to do when starting a game of Bob Doletimate Soccby is to assemble the players into two teams. Once teams have been assembled, each team takes one side of the field. One team takes both the flying disc and the soccer ball. The team passes the flying disc to the other team, as in Ultimate, while passing the soccer ball to their own team. The goalies have an important role in the game: it is the goalies who decide which sport will be played at what time with the soccer ball. If the goalie kicks or punts the ball, then a game of soccer is played. If the goalie throws the ball, then a version of the game of rugby is played: forward passes are allowed, but when a player is tackled, their forward motion must stop until the ball is passed to another player. To score in the soccer part, the ball must pass between the goal markers. To score in rugby, the ball must simply pass over the end line in the hands of a player. To score in Ultimate, a player must catch the flying disc past the end line. At any time during the play of the game, if a player shouts “Bob Dole,” all other players regardless of position (unless holding the flying disc) must attempt to tackle the player. If a player commits a foul or breaks a rule, they are obligated to shout “Bob Dole” within 60 seconds or temporary expulsion from the game may be necessary. It should be noted that it is illegal to use “Bob Dole” as a distraction while another player on your team attempts to score, as even the players on your own team are obligated to attempt to tackle you if you say “Bob Dole.”
Scoring
[edit]Teams are awarded one point each for:
- Knocking the ball through the goal in soccer
- Carrying the ball over the end line in rugby
- Catching the disc beyond the end line
Scores are generally obtained by taking a video of the game and watching it afterwards, as players have more important things to concentrate on during the play of the game than the totaled scores for what seem like three separate sports.

[edit]This is a difficult RFA, but the candidate keeps coming back. Jehochman Talk 04:43, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

- He's not dead, but this RFA appears to be. I dislike the fact that the initial criticisms were incorrect, and then people started voting against the candidate because he responded to incorrect criticism instead of ignoring it. Yeah, it is good to rise above the noise, but there is also something to be said for standing up for what one believes to be true. Different people have different approaches. Jehochman Talk 21:05, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- The key with RfA's is that the candidate and nominators should rarely respond more than once to an oppose. Respond, let others know that you contest it, then hope that a non-candidate/nominator takes up the cause. If they don't the RfA is in trouble, if they do, they will garner more attention than the candidate/nom, who can sink the RFA faster by getting too involved. Is it fair? No, but it is the way RfA's work.---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 21:33, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- Correct. Those are the facts, like them or not. I am hoping that the candidate will learn from this experience, bounce back and pass easily next time. Jehochman Talk 21:34, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, it slightly worries me. It really seems that those three CSDs, out of a huge sample, from quite some time ago, are just being grabbed as a great reason to oppose. ~ mazca t|c 23:48, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
