Ignoring the humor thing for a second

[edit]

I am seeing a lot of opposition based around me not needing the tools. Now, I was very up front about the fact that I don't plan to use the tools very often. Most likely my actions would be three or four moves/renames per month, and maybe a semi-protection every few weeks. I thought that, as long as I could demonstrate that I would not abuse the tools, it wasn't necessary for me to use them a million times a month. Am I mistaken here? Have I got the wrong idea? Plasticup T/C 00:38, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly my thoughts. "No need for the tools" is possibly one of RfA's worst arguments. There are plenty of other legitimate issues, but so long as you prove that you won't abuse the tools, then need for the tools is irrelevant. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 00:59, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Very true. I always say that I think having 3000 admins with not much to do is much much better than having 1500 admins who are overworked and leave backlogs. We cannot go around and say no big deal but then say "well, it's not a big deal but hey, I can't imagine you needing it. So let's just not give you a chance to do good work". But as Juliancolton says, that's one of the worst arguments and I do not think a crat will fail a candidate just because of that. SoWhy 08:26, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion with a Vandal

[edit]

Comment I didn't think this discussion with an indef blocked vandal should be on the main page as the vandal had the goal of goading the candidate. But I didn't want to delete it outright as some may want to see how Plastican dealt with the scenario, so I moved it here.

  1. Indef blocked for vandalism and trolling. Daniel (talk) 06:57, 10 September 2008 (UTC) Oppose - Sorry, but it's just too risky given your abusive comments and lack of understanding of policy, etc --John Jacob Wilson Alueminous (talk) 05:23, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- #:::Ouch, it seems harsh to create an account just to weigh in on an obviously failed RfA. Plasticup T/C 05:46, 10 September 2008 (UTC) - #:::I'm not one to dive in and comment on every "oppose", but abusive? I think that is a rather heavy mischaracterization. Plasticup T/C 05:26, 10 September 2008 (UTC) - #::::This has nothing to do with 'jumping on the bandwagon', I just dont think you'll make a good admin. Sorry --John Jacob Wilson Alueminous (talk) 05:48, 10 September 2008 (UTC) - #:::::I'm !voting, per your answer (or lack of it rather) to Question #1, and also the fact that you have very little experience with administrator-related tasks (does that answer yor question? --John Jacob Wilson Alueminous (talk) 06:43, 10 September 2008 (UTC) - #::::::No, I already understand those points. My question is about how you perceived my comments to be abusive. Plasticup T/C 06:45, 10 September 2008 (UTC) - #::::::: Those comments toward Kurt in the opening sentence of a self-nom were simply unecessasary, and just look at the way that you replied to Xeno's question. --John Jacob Wilson Alueminous (talk) 06:51, 10 September 2008 (UTC) - #::::::::"Unnecessary" is not synonymous with "abusive". It cannot be abusive simply because it is unnecessary. What I am looking for is an explanation of how the joke towards Kurt was abusive. I already know that it was unnecessary—it was a joke, after all—but I am baffled by the accusations that it was abusive. Plasticup T/C 06:57, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
