Investigation of articles
[edit]I've found quite a bit of problems with Simpsons articles, so I knew what to spot.
- At Bart the Fink, I originally looked for the BBC link and it was not even the correct one. This was the link instead of this, the correct link. Regardless:
1. Just wrong from sources - "The couch is a fax machine" where the source says "A colour photocopy". This is minor but suggests not looking carefully at sources.2. The Plot section quotes this above source, but there is no possible way that the source can be used to serve as a reference based on the content.
- Three Men and a Comic Book is sourced to this, but oddly enough mistitled in the references:
1. ""Three Men and a Comic Book" is the twenty-first episode of The Simpsons' second season. It originally aired on the Fox network in the United States on May 9, 1991.[2]" The only information from the source is the 21st episode and second season. There is no mention of an original air date.2 "American actress Cloris Leachman provided the voice of Mrs. Glick in the episode" Source says "Clons Leachman". Just a minor mistake (either in our article or the reference).- The BBC link has misspelled the name. Theleftorium 18:50, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- 3.
"On their way to the convention, Lisa and Bart discusses the similarities in the appearances of the two comic book characters Casper the Friendly Ghost and Richie Rich. Bart also wonders why Richie Rich died, to which Lisa replies: "Perhaps he realized how hollow the pursuit of money really is and took his own life."" The quote is not in the source it is cited to. None of this information is. This source cannot be seen to cite anything in the sentence it is cited to. - 4.
"The scene of the three boys sitting in the treehouse being accusatory and suspicious of each other is a reference to a similar scene in 1948 film The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.[2] " Nothing on this appears in the reference. This source cannot be seen to cite anything in the sentence it is cited to.
- Principal Charming is sourced to this:
1. Article "Homer's attempts to locate a suitable man for Patty include a computer-enhanced overlay on his vision that closely resembles that used by the Terminator character in the Terminator film series."1. Source "Homer's attempts to locate a suitable man for Patty include a computer-enhanced overlay on his vision that closely resembles that used by The Terminator (James Cameron, 1984)." This is copied from the source 100%.2. "Selma sings Lisa a lullaby version of the song "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)" by Looking Glass" while the source says "Selma sings Brandy, a 1971 hit for Scott English." Brandy (You're a Fine Girl) is a 1972 song and -not- the same song.
- Brush with Greatness is sourced to this:
1. Article "Krusty wipes the clown make-up from his face in a way similar to how the Joker wipes of his make-up in the 1989 film Batman"1. Source "Krusty wipes his make-up from his face in a very similar way to Jack Nicholson as the Joker in Batman" These passages are far too similar with direct reuse of phrases.
- The Boy Who Knew Too Much is sourced to this:
1. "May 5, 1994[1]" This date does not appear in the source.
- Bart's Dog Gets an F is an article that I've believed I've raised concerns about before.
- Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington is sourced to this:
1. "September 26, 1991[1]" Not in the source.
Other sources are near impossible to get a hold of online. They would all need to be checked, to be honest. Ottava Rima (talk) 15:09, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- Note: Most of these errors are my fault and I've only been able to address some of them since my RfA. Theleftorium 15:25, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- As co-collaborators, you two really should keep an eye on this thing. Everyone is responsible for the content, so everyone should check and double check. If these entries were from you and he failed to check and see what you were added is correct per the sources, then that is not good for adminship. Ottava Rima (talk) 15:32, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- Indeed, and I'm sure both ImperatorExercitus and myself learned that from my RfA. Theleftorium 15:46, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- It isn't so much a learning experience as a cleaning up experience. Please take the time and address the above issues or have IE address them. My oppose is for a general view that I do not have enough evidence to show a trust in understanding of policies. However, there are plenty that do and probably will. Ottava Rima (talk) 17:43, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- I have addressed all of the above concerns. There's most likely more original research left in the articles from the offline sources, but this is all I have time to fix right now. Theleftorium 19:07, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

- The citations may be bullshit, but are they specifically ImperatorExercitus' fault, or could it be someone else's? @harej 17:44, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- As part of the GAN process, the users who put the article through GAN are responsible for there being no sourcing issues. The reviewers of the GAN missed these issues, but the nominators and those taking credit also missed the issues. Thus, they should be corrected before they are truly "Good Articles" in addition to the fact that they should have been corrected by the editors of the page before hand.
