An important comment about this RfA

[edit]
(This section was added after closure of the RfA)

Carl (AzaToth) tried to start this with a brand new format which can be seen here [1]. He made that proposal for the new format on the talk of WP:RFA. There was no consensus for this format, but also no strong opposition à la WP:SNOW. As Carl noted, his driving idea was that RfA should not be a vote. Unfortunately, this new format on his RfA caused some confusion and it was too shocking for the community and was quickly refused. Even Wikipedians who explicitly said they support Carl's candidacy even changed to oppose due to the new format alone (Xoloz). During the RfA, the format was changed back to the current standard, but short after that Carl withdrew the nom due to these problems—after it had run only for one hour. All this should be considered when reviewing this RfA in the future. All the best to Carl and good luck for his next run :] --Ligulem 18:17, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I second the above sentiment. Even though the revised RfA form was, in my opinion, a very bad idea, Azatoth deserves some credit for being BOLD -- he certainly drew attention to his idea! :) I imagine those of us who reacted somewhat harshly were afraid we'd missed some discussion wherein this format had been accepted (that was my first thought, anyway... "oh heck, what consensus ordered THIS?!?!") My discomfort with the format bears little reflection on the candidate. Xoloz 19:21, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
