Moved from Neutral section (Steel1943's vote)
[edit]- This is precisely why I've nominated Amakuru. He's been doing a reasonable job of "threading the needle" here... on the one hand, we have criticisms such as this, while on the other hand we see candidates declined at RfA for not having "sufficient experience working in administrative areas" – a bit of a "Catch-22". It is preferable for the same person, who is familiar with the discussion, to carry out the moves, especially the more complex double-moves, to reduce the chances of incomplete or erroneous implementations. This is why we need more full administrators. – wbm1058 (talk) 17:52, 12 April 2016 (UTC)
- @Wbm1058: The rather obvious fact that Amakuru has, indeed, tons of experience and has made very good closes at WP:RM is the reason why I am not opposing. However, the whole contradiction issue is actually the reason why I personally have stepped away from closing discussions that clearly require a page deletion with the way it should be closed. (Minus WP:TFD since there was community consensus formed otherwise for that specific board, but I haven't been too active there lately myself.) There is a great amount of scrutiny that some editors seem to hold here that I have personally experienced when it comes to a non-admin performing a close outside of WP:NACD's allowances, whether or not a different page states otherwise unless that exception is specifically posted at WP:NACD. I have, in the past, challenged other editors on the same issue due to the contradictions, as well as tried to start discussion with some editors in an effort to alleviate this long-standing contradiction, but to seemingly no result in an actual fix to the contradiction. So, in regards to how all of this relates to the nominee: The fact that I have yet to see any evidence that the nominee acknowledged this contradiction prior to performing these closes and then tried to make any attempt to start a discussion to fix the contradictions is a bit alarming to me. Steel1943 (talk) 18:07, 12 April 2016 (UTC)
- Where is there a contradiction? For deletion debates, non-admins shouldn't close unless the result is keep. For requested moves, non-admins are allowed to close, and can request an admin when one is needed. For deletion debates, WP:NACD is the relevant guideline, for moves, WP:RMAI is the relevant guideline. They don't contradict - they are talking about different things. Bradv 18:28, 12 April 2016 (UTC)
- @Bradv: The contradiction is that if a WP:RM is closed for "Page A" to a result which requires that Page A be moved to a title that already exists (Page B), Page B needs to be deleted to allow Page A to move there. Non-admins cannot perform deletions. Also, see WP:BADNAC. Steel1943 (talk) 18:36, 12 April 2016 (UTC)
- Ah, there's the contradiction. That page doesn't accurately summarize WP:NACD and WP:RMAI. I know we're a little off-topic here, but isn't that a bit silly? That's like saying non-admins can't revert vandalism because they might have to block someone. Experienced and wise editors should be allowed to close discussions so that admins are free to do the work that only admins can do. Closing discussions is a great way to demonstrate the knowledge and experience required to become an admin. In fact, one could argue that if someone has never waded into places like AfD and RM they probably lack the experience to become an admin. Bradv 18:44, 12 April 2016 (UTC)
- @Bradv: I totally agree. As a non-admin who sometimes closes discussions myself, these contradictions can hinder a productive non-admin from performing some very necessary closes on some of the WP:XFD-related pages. In fact, a few years ago when I started to "get my feet wet" with closing discussions, I sometimes would close WP:RFD discussions in backlog to "delete" when the result was clearly "delete", but then depending on which administrator saw the {{Db-xfd}} tag I placed on the redirect, sometimes the page would be deleted, but other times my close would be reverted due to WP:NACD (which I was not aware of existing at the time.) In fact, I somewhat believe that the "
...Non-administrators should limit their closes to outcomes they have the technical ability to implement.
" text in WP:RMAI should not apply to deleting redirects that do not have to be retained per specifically WP:CWW (in regards to a different page such as the article or non-mainspace page it targets), but that is not current policy. If redirect did not apply to this policy, then WP:RFD and WP:RM would then specifically not be subject to WP:NACD policy restrictions. Steel1943 (talk) 19:14, 12 April 2016 (UTC) - Just a note to any passing clerking 'crats - may be worth moving this to the Talk page upon discussion completion, as it's getting a bit weighty for the main RfA page I think.... Mike1901 (talk) 19:17, 12 April 2016 (UTC)
- User:Steel1943 has changed his !vote, so this whole discussion can be collapsed if it's unwieldy. Bradv 20:54, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

- ← Just a note that this discussion prompted me to finally draft up this proposed Wikipedia:Page mover userright I'd been meaning to. Feel free to leave comments at Wikipedia talk:Page mover. –xenotalk 00:00, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
- This is precisely why I've nominated Amakuru.
Snow?
[edit]Amateur editor here, but isn't 99% in support clearly a case of WP:SNOW? HappyValleyEditor (talk) 20:11, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
- To quote from the page you linked: "If an issue does not have a snowball's chance in hell of being accepted by a certain process, there's no need to run it through the entire process." SNOW is applied to requests which obviously won't pass, not requests that obviously will - this is in part because new issues can arise throughout the process, and we've seen clearly passing RfAs within the first few days fail by the end. Hopefully that clears it up a bit, Ajraddatz (talk) 21:10, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
- Ok, thank you. I'm learning.HappyValleyEditor (talk) 21:12, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
- Yes – it's the kind of "wiki-thinking" that's as "clear as mud", unfortunately...
--IJBall (contribs • talk) 03:13, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
- An early SNOW close is possible, but only the bureaucrats may do that, and generally they are cautious, non-hasty. There is no good reason to rush. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 10:09, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
- Reverse SNOW!
Anyway, this RfA might get in to RFX200 if we just let it "run its course"... Eman235/talk 14:01, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
Masterwikia1's oppose
[edit]Oppose. --Masterwikia1 (talk) 07:23, 14 April 2016 (UTC)- I think this user's vote should probably be discounted, considering that they gave no reason for opposing, and this is only their second edit outside of their own userspace, the first being them randomly removing sources from an article without an edit summary. Omni Flames let's talk about it 07:48, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
- and I thinkt thatyou user:Omni Flames should fi_nally be banned from Wikipedia. It's not the first time that you try to cheat on elections. You are abusing. user:Tonton Bernardo (help - could somebody find out where and how that user can be banned, plaese)

- I'm inclined to strike out the !vote, as unexplained opposes from brand-new accounts often are trollish in nature. However, because there might be a better explanation, I invite @Masterwikia1: to present it. Newyorkbrad (talk) 15:48, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
- Note that this account is a sock made by a long-term abuser, which is now globally locked for cross-wiki abuse. The !vote can probably be struck. Ajraddatz (talk) 18:37, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
- Considering their global lock and socking, I've clerked this !vote out of the tally. Mkdwtalk 18:38, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

- Could someone report Masterwikia1 to the appropriate SPI if he is indeed a sock? Masterwikia1 hasn't been blocked yet and if he really is a sock of a LTA editor he definitely should be. Everymorning (talk) 23:40, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
- Global locks prevent the owner from logging in on any Wikimedia project. Local blocks aren't really needed on an account that can't log in, except for the autoblock (which also isn't needed in this case due to the IP being globally blocked) Ajraddatz (talk) 02:22, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
