Meetup 88

[edit]

@Bjenks, Dan arndt, Evad37, Gnangarra, Mitch Ames, Samwilson, AtticEdit, Ridiculopathy, Dwertyorga, and MavropaliasG: I've just scheduled a meetup for Sun 13 April. The two weekends after that Sunday are Easter and Anzac Day, respectively, so that day is really the last day we could have a meetup in April. Would anyone like to suggest a venue? Cockburn Central, perhaps? If so, then precisely where in Cockburn Central?? Bahnfrend (talk) 09:22, 1 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Bahnfrend: That sounds good. We could meet at the Dome? Sam Wilson 11:24, 1 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Cockburn Central Dome works for me. Mitch Ames (talk) 12:10, 1 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Samwilson and Mitch Ames: That Dome has been closed for some time. Its replacement is called Ready Eddie's (filipino theme - it has other branches in Hamilton Hill and Wanneroo and maybe elsewhere). Menu here. Bahnfrend (talk) 13:13, 1 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Bahnfrend and Mitch Ames: Oh sure. Well that sounds fine too! I'll update OSM while we're there. :) Sam Wilson 03:01, 2 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

OSM meetup for the new trainline

[edit]

There's going to be an OpenStreetMap meeup this Sunday, starting in Perth for coffee (sponsored, i.e. free, from the OSM chapter) and then heading to each station on the new line: https://geogeeks.org/2025/0608_osm-thornlie-cockburn.html I think there's sufficient overlap with Wikimedians for everyone here to be welcome too, especially around photography for Commons that'll then get used to improve the map (the aerial imagery isn't up to date of course). Sam Wilson 10:41, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

hoping I still have a bus service to get to one of the stations. Yeah I'll be in the area at some stage maybe even sunday morning. Gnangarra 12:52, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I saw on the metronet website they were saying how easy it'll be to drive to the stations! I guess the earlier morning trains might be busy. Sam Wilson 13:16, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I know there are changes to buses coming but the lack warnings about them is troubling, as of now not even the TP Journey planner indicates that the current services are being renumbered, routes adjusted, and timing altered. Gnangarra 13:37, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Meetup 89

[edit]

@Bjenks, Dan arndt, Evad37, Gnangarra, Mitch Ames, Samwilson, AtticEdit, Ridiculopathy, Dwertyorga, and MavropaliasG:: It's been several months since we last had a Perth meetup. Shall we organise one for, say, the weekend of 4-5 Oct (the weekend after the long weekend)? It would be good to tell the WMAU AGM that another Perth meetup has been organised ... Bahnfrend (talk) 04:50, 2 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be interested, perhaps at the Leopold Hotel, since its being closed down be nice to get some last photos. @Bahnfrend as board member of WMAU perhaps a letter seeking access to take last photos for the record could be organised. Gnangarra 07:17, 2 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Please register my apols. I'm under various pressures and obliged to scale down my WP contributions for at least a year. Cheers to all. Bjenks (talk) 07:29, 2 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Should be good - I just need to check when sailing season starts. Dan arndt (talk) 09:51, 2 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm keen for a lunchtime thing on either of 4 or 5 Oct. There's also the state history conference coming up in a week and a half; anyone going to that? There's a (free) opening social event on Friday 12th from 6PM, at Hamilton Hill Memorial Hall (Q106080087). Sam Wilson 09:58, 2 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the notice. I hope to be able to start attending Perth meetups from Jan 2026 now. Ridiculopathy (talk) 12:32, 2 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Count me in. 4 or 5 October and Leopold Hotel all work for me. Mitch Ames (talk) 13:01, 2 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, we'll make it the Leopold Hotel at lunchtime (menu here) on 4 or 5 October, depending upon which of those days works for @Dan arndt: Bahnfrend (talk) 01:19, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like opening days at the SoPYC are held on a Sunday, so we'll make our meetup Sat 4 October. Bahnfrend (talk) 03:02, 5 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Opening day is Sunday 5 October - so lunch at the Leopold Hotel works for me :) Dan arndt (talk) 09:00, 19 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Meetup 90

[edit]

@Bjenks, Dan arndt, Evad37, Gnangarra, Mitch Ames, Samwilson, AtticEdit, Ridiculopathy, Dwertyorga, and MavropaliasG: The Wikimedians who attended the October Meetup 89 agreed that the next meetup, and final one for 2025, should be held in the second half of November, with the following meetup probably being in Jan 2026. I volunteered to arrange, and I've just created the page.

I'm thinking Sun 23 November, with the following meetup being Sun 18 January 2026 (to avoid the Australia Day long weekend). Anyone having any views - please post them here. As for the venue, I will try to think of somewhere worth photographing for Commons, as per the October meetup. Again, any comments please post them here. Bahnfrend (talk) 09:53, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I’m going to be overseas for most of November so I’ll see you in the new year. Dan arndt (talk) 11:05, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
For January we talked about doing maybe a Thursday evening meetup on the 15th (as it's the 25th birthday). But I agree, a photo outing somewhere on the weekend after would be great! And for the November meetup, how about somewhere around East Perth Cemeteries or Claisebrook area? Or maybe the cafe at Grove library in Cottesloe? Or somewhere on the new Armadale line? Sam Wilson 11:58, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Grove library would be good for Nov. It's open on Suns 12-4pm. I was already thinking we could photograph the Albion Hotel, which is across the road, heritage listed, and has a Wikipedia article (that could do with improvement), and not a huge number of Commons images just yet. As for Jan, sorry, I forgot about the Thu night suggestion. Let's go with that. I think we discussed the Buffalo Club in Fremantle, didn't we? It's open until 10pm on Thursday nights. Bahnfrend (talk) 14:31, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm good for 23rd at Cottesloe, and yeah we did talk about the Buffalo on the 15th Jan. both sound like a plan Gnangarra 11:17, 23 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
also be good to put the January one up early perhaps we'll catch some travellers from other parts too. Gnangarra 11:18, 23 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
the SailGP is on at Freo on the 17-18 Jan, so having it on Thursday 15 January at the Buffalo Club is a great idea. Dan arndt (talk) 01:47, 24 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I've fixed the date for Nov, and also created a new page for the Jan meetup. The Nov venue will now be the Albion Hotel as the cafe inside the Grove Library is not open on Sundays. Bahnfrend (talk) 12:44, 25 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
