Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/InterMat
So who exactly are you to determine this as a non-notable wrestling page? This is an amateur wrestling news site which has been on the net for over 10 years. The site is the official results source of the NCAA Wrestling Championships. Sorry there isn't a web site out there that will explain this, but I made this entry over a year ago and recently had a "rival" web site actually vandalize it.
I've added a few more links to help validate those sources, but again, who are you to say the nation's top amateur wrestling web site isn't notable? Sorry if I take offense to your statement, but you're way wrong on this one. Oduwildman (talk) 20:22, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
- I guess my concern is reliable sources and the website notability criteria. The sources listed indicate notability for the website's founders and editors, but not the website itself. I think a good approach may be an article on the founders (since they have received several awards), with InterMat as a section within that article. Tnxman307 (talk) 20:37, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
The site is bigger than just a founder, the site has been around longer than wikipedia, and is the primary source for wrestling information in the country. ESPN runs our rankings, we have the largest results database in the country and we are a professional media outlet. This would be no different from ESPN having a wiki entry ... in terms of basic news presentation. Sure, one has a broader scope, but it doesn't mean we should be treated any differently. So is this how wikipedia works? Someone doesn't know something about a topic, or doesn't believe it's been updated fast enough, so you want to delete it and then tell someone who works in the media what's notable and what's not?

As a follow-up, I went back and read the criteria, but the thing is, I don't want a wikipedia entry on myself. That's way too cocky for my liking. The limited information on amateur wrestling on wikipedia as a whole is why there are few links coming in. There is plenty of content that is exclusive to the site, thing is, you're reading it during the "off-season" ... November through March is our busy season. The definition of "well-known" is also at the crux of the argument.
You can ask any fan of wrestling what "InterMat" is, and they know. That's "well-known" in our circles. Do you know anything about wrestling or are you just being problematic in general?
