Imho, this is yet another questionable Wikipedia rule, or unlimited generalization. If the owner of the AI generator (the company) claims that the generated images are copyright free, then why they cannot be considered public domain? But by now it is not possible to use them, as the only option is to declare them as "own work", and how this can be done, when one didn't make the image oneself, but generated it using AI. The problem arose when trying to use an image generated by the site that claims "You can instantly create and access a collection of high-quality, free non-copyright images available for commercial use at nomorecopyright.com", the image was removed with the comment that it had no proper non-free use attribution. I'm not sure about that particular site, and is the copyright clear, but in general, if the owner of AI generator claims the generated images to be copyright free, why then cannot they be used in Wikipedia? Hi, I replied about the specific image you posted on the article talk page. The basic gist is that copyright concerns are just one of many reasons that AI-generated images are generally not to be used on English wiki. -- LWG talk 16:03, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks for your reply. I think that AI generated images are generally bad, though i think that they may have some purpose in limited cases, with clear restrictions. Thanks again. Eiusmod (talk) 16:30, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
