Wikipedia:WikiProject Civil engineering/Assessment

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One of the main tasks of WikiProject:Civil Engineering is to assess the quality of Wikipedia's civil engineering articles. The resulting article ratings are used within the project to help in recognising excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work. They also play a role in the WP:1.0 program.

The assessment is done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{WikiProject Civil engineering}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in the appropriate sub-categories of Category:Civil engineering articles by quality.

How to Assess

[edit]

An article's quality assessment is recorded using the |class= parameter in the {{WikiProject banner shell}}. Articles that have the {{WikiProject Civil engineering}} banner template on their talk page will be added to the appropriate categories by quality.

The following standard grades may be used to describe the quality of mainspace articles (see Wikipedia:Content assessment for assessment criteria):

FA (for featured articles only; adds them to the FA-Class Civil engineering articles category)  FA
FL (for featured lists only; adds them to the FL-Class Civil engineering articles category)  FL
A (for articles that passed a formal peer review only; adds them to the A-Class Civil engineering articles category)  A
GA (for good articles only; adds them to the GA-Class Civil engineering articles category)  GA
B (for articles that satisfy all of the B-Class criteria; adds them to the B-Class Civil engineering articles category) B
C (for substantial articles; adds them to the C-Class Civil engineering articles category) C
Start (for developing articles; adds them to the Start-Class Civil engineering articles category) Start
Stub (for basic articles; adds them to the Stub-Class Civil engineering articles category) Stub
List (for stand-alone lists; adds them to the List-Class Civil engineering articles category) List
NA (for any other pages where assessment is unwarranted; adds them to the NA-Class Civil engineering pages category) NA
??? (articles for which a valid class has not yet been provided are listed in the Unassessed Civil engineering articles category) ???

Quality scale

[edit]

WikiProject Civil Engineering uses the same criteria for grading articles as set out by the Version 1.0 Editorial Team. If you are not sure what class an article falls under, leave a note on the WikiProject's talkpage, and someone will help you out.

Importance

[edit]
Basic syntax

{{Civil engineering| class=stub | importance=Low}}

  • The word "importance" to start with a lowercase i. Values start with Uppercase, e.g. Low

Need: The article's priority or importance, regardless of its quality

Top Subject is a must-have for a print encyclopaedia Regional and historic engineering techniques, world famous civil engineers and works of civil engineering; "Most famous or innovative, or otherwise notable." may appear in the text; article that covers several topics
High Subject contributes a depth of knowledge Very important civil engineering projects and noteworthy civil engineers
Mid Subject fills in more minor details Interesting civil engineering projects and civll engineers
Low Subject is mainly of specialist interest Other civil engineering-related topics
NA Not Applicable Used for lists
None Unassessed Unassessed-importance Civil engineering articles

  1. ^ Prose at the Good Article level is not expected to be at a professional level like it is for Featured Articles. Minor grammatical or style issues that do not impact clarity are not prohibitive of GA status.
