What we do

[edit]
  • Improve coverage of people, places, events, organisations across Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland Region).
  • Maintain assessments and backlogs; run focused drives (elections, heritage, transport, etc.).

Scope: Defining Auckland content

[edit]

This project covers topics primarily about the Auckland Region / Auckland Council area (Tāmaki Makaurau).

Tier 1 (always in scope)
  • Places within the Auckland Council area (suburbs, islands, parks, waterways, roads, schools, marae, heritage places).
  • Statues, monuments, memorials, markers and sculptures within the Auckland Region
  • Auckland governance and agencies (Mayor, Governing Body, local boards, council-controlled organisations).
  • Events occurring in Auckland (elections, civic events, disasters, major local festivals).
  • Organisations headquartered/primarily operating in Auckland; Auckland sports teams/clubs/venues; universities and institutions.
  • Natural environment specific to the region (e.g., Auckland Volcanic Field; Hauraki Gulf islands under Auckland Council).
  • Items with Wikidata property P131 as Auckland Council/Auckland Region or any local board/ward.
Tier 2 (usually in scope; use judgement)
  • People closely associated with Auckland (born/raised, long-term resident, educated mainly here, or held Auckland offices).
  • National/multi-regional organisations with head office in Auckland, or flagship asset in Auckland.
  • Works set in or primarily depicting Auckland; major projects built in Auckland.
Exclusions
  • Other “Auckland” places outside NZ (California, Durham, South Africa).
  • The Subantarctic Auckland Islands (unless the Auckland-region connection is central).
  • Neighbouring regions unless the article focuses on the Auckland side of a cross-boundary feature.
  • Historic Auckland provincial areas exceeding the current boundaries of Auckland
