Get started
  1. Register an account. You can use your real name or not, your choice
  2. Introduce yourself on your userpage. What are your interests, what is your background? Share as much as you like.
Set a goal
  1. Add a single sentence to an article with a formatted, high quality reference.
    • Search

Do some critical reading
  1. Lookup the main article on your speciality or area of interest. Just type it into the search box at the top right of the page.
    • How would you rate the article?
    • Can you find any errors? Biases? Omissions?
    • How up to date is the content? Is it missing key recent (meta)studies or clinical practice recommendations?
    • How well sourced is the article? Are there many references, or just a few?
    • Click on an inline citation in an article (looks like [1]) and follow the outgoing link to the source. Does Wikipedia accurately summarize its contents?
  2. Lookup a medical controversy that you are aware of. How does Wikipedia approach presenting it? Does it give more weight to one point of view than another?
  3. Look up a public health issue which received attention in the media such as Breast cancer screening or |Vaccines and autism
  4. Compare any Wikipedia medical article with an UpToDate article on the same topic?
What are their relative strengths or weaknesses
Do they speak to a different audience?
