Scope
[edit]Welcome to the Visayan task force of Tambayan Philippines and WikiProject Ethnic groups. Countless academic papers and magazine articles discuss the Visayan ethnolinguistic group(s) of the Philippines, as well as their languages and culture(s). However, their coverage on Wikipedia is often unfocused, poorly sourced, and disorganized.
This task force was created so that the abundant existing information related to the Visayan ethnic group(s) of the Philippines can be properly utilized. The task force aims to collect this research and create, organize, and improve articles related to it.
What goes here
[edit]- Any individual with ethnic origin from the Visayas region, according to at least one verifiable, reliable source
- The Visayan languages and ethnic groups such as Cebuano people and Hiligaynon people
- Articles that discuss Visayan history and culture(s) at length (such as the balitaw, a To-Do article)
- Works (songs, films, etc.) that use any of the Visayan languages
What does not go here
[edit]- Works created by or featuring Visayan individuals, but do not include any Visayan languages or any references to these people being Visayan
- For instance: "Puhon" by TJ Monterde would be of interest to this task force, as it is a song written in the Cebuano language. Although Monterde is Visayan, his Tagalog songs would not be of interest to this task force.
- Works that mention Visayans (as an ethnic group) and/or Visayan languages once or briefly
- For instance: Everything We Never Had, a 2024 young adult novel by Randy Ribay, mentions Visayans (both the ethnic groups and languages) a few times, but only very briefly. The novel mainly discusses Filipino Americans of Ilocano origin. It would not be of interest to this task force.
