Wikipedia:Requests for comment/SkyWalker
In order to remain listed at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User conduct, at least two people need to show that they tried to resolve a dispute with this user and have failed. This must involve the same dispute with a single user, not different disputes or multiple users. The persons complaining must provide evidence of their efforts, and each of them must certify it by signing this page with ~~~~. If this does not happen within 48 hours of the creation of this dispute page (which was: 23:42, 8 October 2007 (UTC)), the page will be deleted. The current date and time is: 08:12, 19 April 2025 (UTC).
Users should only edit one summary or view, other than to endorse.
Statement of the dispute
[edit]This is a summary written by users who are concerned by this user's conduct. Users signing other sections ("Response" or "Outside views") should not edit the "Statement of the dispute" section. This user has been repeatedly removing links because he is following the rule "Wikipedia is not an external link directory."
I have tried to explain that external resources for articles and interviews qualify but he will not quit removing the links from Half-Life 2. The links I am defending all have long histories of interviews, articles, and news about the game yet are being deleted because this user beleives wikipedia should only list the official Valve and Half-life 2 websites which fail to offer information about Modifications, Interviews with the developers of Half-Life 2, and other useful resources.
Also specifically regarding HL2C, a link that has been removed because it is cited as a "fansite" should not be regarded as such. It is an editor moderated publication. Each article and news post has been reviewed by an editor, and the true control of the website is up to a manager. It is a reliable source that has been around for four years.
Desired outcome
[edit]This is a summary written by users who have initiated the request for comment. It should spell out exactly what the changes they'd like to see in the user, or what questions of behavior should be the focus. Explanation of the rules to the user and moderator oversight for a short period of time. A registered warning that upon further activity will result in a permanent ban. OR Removal of the users editing abilities for the article Half-Life 2 and any other involved articles.
Description
[edit]{Add summary here, but you must use the section below to certify or endorse it. Users who edit or endorse this summary should not edit the other summaries, other than to endorse them.} Removal of several links.
Evidence of disputed behavior
[edit](Provide diffs. Links to entire articles aren't helpful unless the editor created the entire article. Edit histories also aren't helpful as they change as new edits are performed.)
Applicable policies and guidelines
[edit]{list the policies and guidelines that apply to the disputed conduct}
"Sites that contain neutral and accurate material that cannot be integrated into the Wikipedia article due to copyright issues...or other reasons." "Sites with other meaningful, relevant content that is not suitable for inclusion in an article, such as reviews and interviews."
"There is nothing wrong with adding one or more useful content-relevant links to an article; however, excessive lists can dwarf articles and detract from the purpose of Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:External links for some guidelines.

Discussion
[edit]All signed comments and talk not related to an endorsement should be directed to this page's discussion page. Discussion should not be added below. Discussion should be posted on the talk page. Threaded replies to another user's vote, endorsement, evidence, response, or comment should be posted to the talk page. User is removing fansite links from Half-Life 2 because he beleives Wikipedia is not a link directory. The links all qualify as resources for text which is not suitable for inclusion in wikipedia including Interviews and Articles. I've explained that the clause "Wikipedia is not an external link directory" does not mean any external links aren't allowed, but he does not reason.
Check his user talk page, User_talk:SkyWalker for two complaints against his activities. VBrent 23:42, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- Those complaints where?. Do not remove those links?. Sure. You can keep on adding external links all around wikipedia and say it is useful and one day the whole wikipedia will be filled just will worthless link or useful links which can be searched using search engines.
My Response
[edit]- Half-Life 2 Central - Long standing Half-Life 2 Community
- HalfLife2.net - Another popular community
- Half-Life Fallout
- Planet Half-Life
and the other external links such LOTR:BFME.
Those site again i say it is a fansites. Look at half life 2 external links it is already so huge. I have a cleanup so that only wikia and the official sites and forums stays there. Even i can create list of mods, maps and various other stuff and add it to wikipedia and say the link is very useful.
Also there is this link http://www.dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Shooter/H/Half-Life_Series/Half-Life_2// . All the useful links can go there. So far i think Vbrent and the other who keeps on adding this "useful link" is wikipedia should be filed for vandalism and for making wikipedia just for directory of links and aswell has marketing those links. --SkyWalker 03:23, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

What I found useful
[edit]Please try to speak clearer. Here are just some of the useful ARTICLES, INTERVIEWS, and OTHER RESOURCES available on each of these fansites that CANNOT be copied onto wikipedia and THUS are useful.
- Half-Life 2 Central - Long standing Half-Life 2 Community
- HalfLife2.net
- Half-Life Fallout
- [5] - Complete walkthrough of the entire Half-Life 2 video game
My point is fairly clear. There are numerous resources available on each of these websites. The advertising is not a very big issue, fansites run themselves through Google searches. The point is to refer wikipedia users to other important information that is not allowed by Wikipedia rules to be included directly on the Wikipedia article.
Aside from the matter you claim is advertising you also are sticking to labeling Fansites as if they are not a quality resource of information and ALWAYS report bogus information. I can understand if you want to say, this is a fansite that only runs for advertising, or this fansite hasnt been updated in years, but clearly you are not even taking the moment to browse through the websites' troves of information about the games themselves and related matters.
The people running fansites are dedicated to the video game. Not including a die-hard information resource like that is like not listing any countries under Democracy but the United States because people can just search for Democracy instead of being referred to it from the actual article.
Sir, please do tell ME what you DO NOT find useful in these links :-
