Wikipedia:Requests for comment/BassxForte

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In order to remain listed at Wikipedia:Requests for comment, at least two people need to show that they tried to resolve a dispute with this user and have failed. This must involve the same dispute with a single user, not different disputes or multiple users. The persons complaining must provide evidence of their efforts, and each of them must certify it by signing this page with ~~~~. If this does not happen within 48 hours of the creation of this dispute page (which was: 00:21, 10 April 2007 (UTC)), the page will be deleted. The current date and time is: 09:09, 11 April 2025 (UTC).

Users should only edit one summary or view, other than to endorse.

Statement of the dispute

[edit]

BassxForte has repeatedly started edit wars, and ignored consensus multiple times on Organization XIII. He has also reverted the removal of unsourced material on a number of other articles, and began debates on why it was removed. He also behaves in a fairly uncivil manner. Despite many users directing him to policy, he has continued to ignore it.

Desired outcome

[edit]

All of his edits are good, or done in good faith. He has expressed awareness of these bad habits a number of times, but has yet to do anything to change it. Preferably, he should stop starting edit wars, and instead bring the issue to a talk page. BassxForte should listen to and accept consensus. He should not begin disputes if he is not ready to back up his claims with citations. I would also like it if BassxForte would re-read common Wikipedia policies, and begin following it.

Description

[edit]

It began with a discussion at Talk:Organization_XIII#Before_I_do_something_stupid, where BassxForte was questioning whether the fictional group was evil or not. After the main contributors of the article agreed that this fact was not known, and thus should not be mentioned, BassxForte continued to press that this fact of not knowing should be mentioned. It eventually degraded into a debate on why BassxForte was still pressing, then into what appears to be a blame game on who is at fault or who started it. I had tried to stop the mindless argument but BassxForte continued.

On Organization_XIII, BassxForte started an edit war on whether a certain sentence should be added or not. After I stopped the edit war, he moved to the talk page and gave his reasons, but three people initially disagreed(two more people joined the discussion later on, along with 2 anons). It was argued that the sentence is completely irrelevant according to the context, and should be placed in Kingdom Hearts II. A page protection occured, but it was removed shortly. Vandalism or incorrect information is added often on this page, and is removed promptly. This was considered to be another one of those cases. He also talked to them via their own talk pages, which included a threat to continue the edit war if it was removed again.

Fast forwarding to this current point in time, BassxForte began a discussion again(after another edit war) with two additional people disagreeing with him (making a total of 10.) Through this timespan he has been directed to pages such as WP:TRIVIA. He still refuses to accept consensus, and I had interrupted the dispute by announcing I had placed BassxForte on WP:ANI for uncivility and 3RR. Shortly after, he has said that he will not respond in a pretty way if an administrator intervenes.

On many instances he has acted uncivil, and some claim he has been acting childish.

He has openly admitted on his talk page that he has been in edit wars before, and says that every time the other person was unreasonable. He also said that he is very stubborn in real life, and assures that the conversation will not end until an admin intervenes. He admits he is a lost cause. He also says that he is a reformed vandal.

He's also thinking we are acting in contempt.

Other users who endorse this summary

  1. Endorse, user clearly does not have any respect for Wikipedia Policy, nor the fact that Admins and Editors are equal, except admins have some extra buttons. Not much more can be said about this issue, so I'm not going to write a summary outside view. CASCADIAHowl/Trail 03:46, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Endorse, I've read the above and my opinion is that BassxForte needs to learn how to let go. He states numerous times how he is stubborn or hardheaded. The fact is: Wikipedia is an editable encyclopedia. It's not an online anime/gaming forum. Opinions are great, discussions are nice, but when it turns into a flame war/edit war, it needs to stop. --Dige 15:23, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Response

[edit]

This is a summary written by the user whose conduct is disputed, or by other users who think that the dispute is unjustified and that the above summary is biased or incomplete. Users signing other sections ("Statement of the dispute" and "Outside Views") should not edit the "Response" section.

This is an enirely biased opinion against me, someone doesn't like a few edits I made so he whines on this page, this makes no sense, let me ask you this, do you believe you have the divine right to change the way I handle things? This is positivily absurd and is not normal, i've never complained about what another user has done, if they did something I didn't approve of I mentioned it on their talk page or the discussion page the edit was about, it is completly pointless to whine about things here.

{Add summary here, but you must use the endorsement section below to sign. Users who edit or endorse this summary should not edit the other summaries.}

Outside view

[edit]

This is a summary written by users not directly involved with the dispute but who would like to add an outside view of the dispute. Users editing other sections ("Statement of the dispute" and "Response") should not edit the "Outside Views" section, except to endorse an outside view.

Coming from an outside perspective, although still somewhat knowledgeable about the Kingdom Hearts and MegaMan Zero games, it seems obvious that BassxForte is acting extremely stubborn and obsessive over the portions that he feels belong in Wikipedia. However, there's a few problems with the items he wishes to add:

  • For one, they're not verifiable, and this has already been mentioned. If not original research, they aren't properly sourced. And his comment about ALL fans believing something about Ciel would be next-to-impossible to verify.
  • For another, there's notability to consider. Namely, how that one sentence on the Organization XIII article is so bloody important. Why is he getting his knickers in a twist over this one little mundane fact that in a yet-to-be-released game, he believes that a boss battle will replace a cutscene? How is this important in the overall scheme of the Organization XII article?
  • He is acting extremely uncivil and almost fanatical - like the rules don't apply to him, and no amount of blocking will teach him his lesson. He also seems to be personally offended by his edits being reverted.

It is my humble opinion that this user should take a step back, distance himself from Wikipedia for a good amount of time, relax, and then come back ready to learn and contribute. Suigi 05:13, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
