Final (1/7/1); Closed as nomination withdrawn by east.718 at 02:08, January 21, 2008
Urban Rose (talk · contribs) - I was introduced to Wikipedia around May 2006 but it took me until November 2007 to create this account. During the two months I have been active with this account I have accumulated around 1,500 edits, most in the form of vandalism reversion, and have taken time to familiarize myself further with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I think I've gained a lot of experience both with editing and interacting with others during my time on Wikipedia and I would like to make a deeper commitment to keeping the site up to standards in the form of becoming an administrator. Questions for the candidate
[edit]Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. It is recommended that you answer these optional questions to provide guidance for participants:
- 1. What admin work do you intend to take part in?
- A: I intend to continue my work as a vandal fighter as well as involve myself in the newpage patrol, the administrator's noticeboard, and the requests for page protection. As an administrator I will also be happy (as I always am) to give advice to less-experienced users and will consider becoming a participant in the admin coaching program.
- 2. What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
- A: My best contributions thus far are in how I make an effort to interact properly with others as I edit the site in general. For example, when I do RC patrol, I make a special effort to distinguish true vandalism from simply misguided edits, and when I do jump the gun and dish out warnings in inappropriate situations, I make an effort to communicate with said users and apologize for my hastiness. It might be easier for me just to ignore such mistakes and go on my way, but in this regard I make an effort to be as friendly as possible.
- 3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- A: Thankfully I have not been in many stressful situations during my time on the site thus far. I was once asked to change my original username ("Miss Pussy Galore") as a user commented that it might be offensive. Rather than argue with the user over the appropriateness of the name, I decided to change it and found that I like my current name better. In another instance, a saw a userpage which I felt was inappropriate, and in speaking my concerns to the user, I awarded the user with a barnstar for his/her effort as a vandal fighter. The user changed his/her page and their was no real conflict. As I RC patrol, naturally my userspace gets vandalized from time to time, but I haven't let this stress me out much. I simply revert, report, and ignore. If I do find myself in stressful situations in the future, I will do my best to keep a cool head, communicate with the other users involved, and not let my emotions get in the way of contributing to the encyclopedia.
Questions from Avruch
4. What is the difference between a ban and a block?
- A block is simply the disallowing of a single account or IP to edit for a period of time or indefinitely. A ban is a community decision to prohibit a certain editor from editing under any account or IP.
5. If another administrator removes material from an article and cites a BLP concern as the reason - but you believe the material does not violate BLP policy and should be included- what do you do?
- I would mention the incident on WP:AN and on the article's talk page and gain a consensus before acting.
6. What is your opinion on administrator recall?
- I am neutral towards the idea at the time.

Discussion
[edit]- I appreciate the sincerity of your statements and self-nom, and appreciate your willingness to further your contributions. I suspect that your level of experience so far may make it difficult for this RfA to succeed, but if that happens please don't see it as a judgment of your contributions to this point. Avruchtalk 02:29, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Support
[edit]- Support - I see no reason why this user shouldn't be an admin. If this RfA doesn't succeed, however, I will be willing to WP:COACH you :-) - Good luck! ScarianCall me Pat 03:44, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose
[edit]- Oppose. While Urban Rose has been a hard working Wikipedian to date, I would think that it would be better if she got a bit more experience under her belt before becoming an admin. I would certainly be prepared to consider support for another nomination in six months to a years time. Capitalistroadster (talk) 02:51, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose. A good editor, but not enough experience yet in the Wikipedia namespace and only 28 deleted contribs. Only two and half months isn't long enough either, but I'd support an RFA in 3 more months if the work in the Wikipedia namespace increases. Useight (talk) 06:00, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Weak Oppose I too see a need for a little bit more experience. However, I think in a few more months' time, Urban Rose will make a fine admin. GlassCobra 19:08, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Weak Oppose I agree with the above. More experience is needed, but in a bit, I'll vote yes if you continue along the same route. SpencerT♦C 21:52, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose and recommend closure under WP:SNOW - more experience needed Whitstable (talk) 22:16, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose per above. Needs more experience. Then I will support in few months if ready. NHRHS2010NHRHS2010 22:48, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose per all the above concerns. --Siva1979Talk to me 23:44, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose No enough experiences, probably wait until the spring or summer before trying out again, to acquire more Wiki experiences. Although right, with your first edits you're in the right direction.--JForget 00:17, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment - Okay I'll go ahead and withdraw my RFA. I'll let Scarian coach me and I'll rack up some more edits and gain some more experience before I try again. Thanks for the constructive criticism everyone.--Urban Rose 01:28, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Neutral
[edit]- On the right track and no evidence of an inclination to abusing the mop. However, the lack of general editing experience (despite the good answers to questions) means I cannot support at this time. I look forward to doing so in a few months time.
