I am requesting adminship to help out with admin duties as in 2024 alone, we have so far lost 3 sysops (maybe 4 depending on how the RfdA goes but either way the numbers aren't great for a wiki of our size). I will try and engage with criticism brought up here as much as possible.- FusionSub (Talk page) (Contributions) 08:15, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I do also understand a lot of factors that goes in to doing admin work successfully, like being trustworthy and undertsanding the tools and how to properly use them to minimise any mistakes, and when mistakes are made, to try and learn from them, rather than ignore it and make the same mistakes over and over again.- FusionSub (Talk page) (Contributions) 08:29, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Candidate's acceptance: Self nomination
Support
[change source]Support One of the most active editors around, will make a great addition to the admin. Was thinking of nominating.
Weak support Per below --Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 11:02, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose
[change source]- As much as I like to encourage candidates, I think this request came too soon. I'd like to see more experience and content related engagement as a whole. I am also not impressed with the answers, mainly the first one.
Oppose--BRP ever 17:03, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose per BRP, your nom rationale reads like you have too not that you want too, the revision answer to Tsugaru's question is most bizarre - we don't keep/delete based on what an article looks/looked like ? we keep/delete based on WP:NOTABILITY, and last but not least unfortunately you've not really done any admin things or made any edits that have made you stand out and made me say "Yes you should be an admin",
We certainly need more admins here but I don't hold any confidence in you and if I'm being honest I feel in the end we'd have issues just like we did with the other admin, I also agree with BRP this does seem TOOSOON so I oppose this RFA. –Davey2010Talk 17:44, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]- I will admit my rationale is a bit rubbish.- FusionSub (Talk page) (Contributions) 18:39, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Weak oppose I do have trust in you, but I think it's just a matter of getting more experience prior to getting the tools. I don't think the question Tsugaru made was particularly difficult, as determining consensus is something admins will often have to do when it comes to community discussions or RfDs, and it isn't always a landslide support/oppose – a good example right now is the non-free images discussion on Simple Talk that is still yet to be closed. But I just think this comes from the fact this is too soon, more experience will come with time and I think so far you've been a helpful editor all-round and in discussions you have bought up good points. I appreciate you volunteering to help with admin tasks here. Thank you for volunteering, --Ferien (talk) 15:29, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose Yes we have lost admins and need new ones but I don't see this candidate as being ready. I can see myself supporting in the future but not right now fr33kman 21:48, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comments
[change source]- I know this is a bit of a hard question, so you do not have to answer it. I just wanted to see your view. The community has a hard time deciding if an article should be deleted. This chat is the one that takes place at RFD. You happen to be an uninvolved admin closing the discussion. How do you decide what consensus to make? Thank you
--Tsugaru let's talk! :) 21:25, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- You really weren't lying when you said this was a hard one @つがる!
- For me, I would probably evaluate both the keep and delete arguements against the most recent revision of the page (minus any vandalism) and see if any arguements on either have been fixed/broken. I would also check some older revisions to see if any of the problems seen in the latest rev was present before.- FusionSub (Talk page) (Contributions) 07:06, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thinks it's time to close it as WP:TOOSOON.- FusionSub (Talk page) (Contributions) 07:34, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Optional questions from Cactusisme
Question: What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?-Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 07:41, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Personally (so some people might disagree), I believe that my work on WP:Requested pages (Of which for ~1 month I was the sole regular maintainer of the page) and my work on dividing CAT:WIKI after the decision to put the project pages into it solely. I believe my requested pages maintainance was some of my best edits due to the page being a "conversion point" of readers and page creators and maintaining the page allows for more focus on the important parts of article creation. I believe my work on CAT:WIKI was also some of my best contribs (recently) as it could help people "digest" the category and make it easier to understand how the wiki functions day-to-day. There is also my anti-vandalism work which is my most common type of edits and I do enjoy keeping the wiki (relatively) vandal-free.- FusionSub (Talk page) (Contributions) 09:17, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Question: @FusionSub You edit count is still kind of low (4000). What do you plan to do when you are an administrator? Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 09:28, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Not really a helpful answer I know, but general admin work like protecting pages, blocking vandals, deleting bad pages and pages with consensus to delete at RfD. General stuff like that :).- FusionSub (Talk page) (Contributions) 10:35, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Question: Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?--Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 10:52, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- I haven't really been in any edit conflicts (that I can remember at least) or had other users cause me stress. In fact, I often go to Wikipedia to cool down after getting stressed.- FusionSub (Talk page) (Contributions) 10:55, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Questions from Ferien
[change source]Hi FusionSub, can I first just say thank you for volunteering to help out, it's highly appreciated! I just want to ask you a few questions, if that's alright. Like Tsugaru's, whether you answer it is up to you.
Question: Which administrative areas will you be the most/least involved in and why?
Question: Is there a policy/guideline we have that you believe should be changed, and if so, why?
Question: You find yourself reviewing the unblock appeal of a trusted user who has been blocked for abusing multiple accounts, with the block reason of
{{checkuserblock-account}}
. The evidence and explanation given from the user appealing seems reasonable. How do you respond to the unblock appeal?
Thanks and best of luck for your RfA! --Ferien (talk) 10:47, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- 1. I will probably be more involved in stuff like blocking vandals and deleting pages than dealing with Rollback/Patroller/Flood flag requests.
- 2. Not any that I can think of now, although some guidelines could use some reviewing (and possible rewrites) in my opinion.
- 3. I'd probably contact the checkuser that blocked the user before considering an unblock to see if there is anything major that I may've missed. If the user passes that stage (in my opinion) I would then review their most recent 100 - 200 edits to see if there was any obvious overlaps in activity with another account blocked as a result of the RfCU. If they pass both then I would double-check with the blocking CU to see if they have any objections, and if they don't, then I might unblock.
- Thanks for these questions, these were fun to answer (:.- FusionSub (Talk page) (Contributions) 11:05, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
