Nomination

DotComCairney (talk · contribs) – I'm a grade A ICT student who over the last few weeks has became incredibly confident with Wikipedia. I particularly enjoy using non-admin rollbacks to revert vandalism and yes I did say enjoy. If I were an admin I would concentrate on vandalism as I'm sure I'm one of many in saying that it is one of the most immature things to do. Thanks, DotComCairney 18:52, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. It is recommended that you answer these optional questions to provide guidance for participants:

1. What administrative work do you intend to take part in?

A: I would mainly concentrate on both reverting vandalism and user warnings as vandalism is my pet hate. I believe that I could make more of an impact as an admin when warning vandals as they would take more notice if someone with power was warning them rather than just someone with a bit to much free time.

2. What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?

A: I've currently made 26 non-admin rollbacks on recent IP edits in ten days, I doubt my friends would classify that as an achievement but I'm sad enough to. It isn't that impressive but as time goes by and with a few more cliché such as that it will undoubtedly increase.

3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?

A: Up until no i've never had a disagreement with another user. I'm a very tolerant person when it comes to opinions, both with trying to get my opinion across as well as taking theirs into consideration. I would never be stubborn if someone strongly disagreed with me about something, I would probably get someone not contacted to either party to judge on who is right.

Oppose, but with moral support. I had to fix the transclusion for this RfA, you mistakenly put it at the bottom. Overall this is not a big deal, I make mistakes all the time even with my experience here, but it is a good indicator that you need a bit more practice before requesting to be an administrator. Thank you for submitting your RFA. While I applaud enthusiasm, I'm afraid you do not yet possess sufficient knowledge and experience for the community to have confidence in your readiness to become an admin. But that does not mean that we will never have confidence in you.
Generally, It has been my experience that it takes at least 3,000 edits in a variety of areas to learn policy and guidelines well enough to attempt adminship. Nominees need to show the ability to contribute a number of significant edits to build the encyclopedia.
- The Admin tools allow the user to block and unblock other editors, delete and undelete pages and protect and unprotect pages. Nominees will therefore do well to gain experience and familiarity with such areas as WP:AIV, WP:AFD, WP:CSD, Wikipedia:Protection policy, and WP:BLOCK to learn when to do these things.
- Adminship inevitably leads one to 1) need to explain clearly the reasons for one's decisions, 2) need to review one's decisions and change one's mind when it is reasonable to do so, 3) need to review one's decisions and stand firm when it is reasonable to do so, 4) need to negotiate a compromise. Admins need a familiarity with dispute resolution. The ability to communicate clearly is essential.
- Article building is the raison d'être of Wikipedia. I recommend significant participation in WP:GA or WP:FA as the surest way to gain article building experience.
- My suggestion would be to withdraw and try again in another 3 months and 3000 edits. Many nominees have found it helpful to obtain an Editor Review or to receive Admin coaching before submitting their RfA and after passing that benchmark. Hope this helps. Oppose, sorry, but per above. Not enough experience, with only 150 edits not including userpage edits, I can not trust you with these tools yet. You show little need for the admin tools (yet). Now, most of the work you do seems to be vandalism reverting. So here's a few tips: Did you know you can report persistent vandals/spammers at WP:AIV? Isee you've never edited there and it's a good quick(ish) way to get vandals blocked. Also, I see you're using Lupins Anti-Vandal tool, it's a good way to find vandalism, and Twinkle, which makes it easier to revert, warn, and report users (this is reporting them to WP:AIV as I mentioned before). These tools are good, but make sure you don't seem cold or "mean" to new users. Also, there are many Wikipedia pages you can take part in (I see most of your WP space edits are project), search around for things you can help with.
