Nomination
[edit]Ankitbhatt (talk · contribs) – Hello everyone. I will try not to sound boastful. Before I begin, here are some general statistics about me :-
Currently, I have completed a year in Wikipedia (my first edit done on January 26, 2009). I have performed over 3,000 edits here, and have created over 10 articles. The article 2003 Afro-Asian Games is currently a GA-class article, and I not only created the article but also contributed over 90% of the content. My main focus nowadays is pooling around two major categories of articles :- Sports articles and Film articles. I do know that my experience is comparatively not as much as necessary, but I have strong views about the conduct in Wikipedia. Vandalism, unsourced content, flowery language (peacock terms), etc. are what I aim to eradicate.

Questions for the candidate
[edit]Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. It is recommended that you answer these optional questions to provide guidance for participants:
- 1. What administrative work do you intend to take part in?
- A: I intend to do much for Wikipedia whether I become an administrator or not. My main aim is improvement of grammar, cohesion, formatting, layout and general presentation and look of an article. I also intend to help in the expansion of stubs to better and more useful articles. I also want to replace "edit wars" with "war against vandals".
- 2. What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
- A: My best contributions to Wikipedia will undoubtedly be the article 2003 Afro-Asian Games, which I created and helped to a very great extent to make it reach the GA-status the article has received today. I am grateful for the help of other editors, who have put me on the right track over minor errors and some important concepts in Wikipedia. I have also contributed very significantly to the article My Name Is Khan and 3 Idiots,as well as many other articles. In lists, I have created the 54th Filmfare Awards, and also contributed very significantly to it. Other than that, I have contributed to any article I have come across as interesting and eye-catching, mostly in the area of grammar, presentation, layout and formatting.
- 3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- A: I have met with a good deal of positive feedback and criticism from other, more experienced editors. I always know that an experienced editor will provide feedback only for improving myself and Wikipedia, and enabling others to do the same. Personally, I have never felt any stress from any particular editor, and am always welcome to the feedback that other editors provide, no matter it's nature. I have not had any major conflicts, just a few minor disagreements and some plain speaking with vandals.
- 4. Query from ϢereSpielChequers You've got a couple of very recent copyright warning on your page re images you uploaded, though I've noticed you've resolved the earlier warnings about images. Please can you tell us what you've learned about our image policy and explain what happened with the two most recent warnings?

[edit]- Weak Support Looks like youve done a lot of quality work and Im sure youd be a net positive as an admin providing to start with you tread very lightly in the area of dispute resolution, where I agree you seem to need more experience. If youre suggesting we amend guidelines so they refer to edit wars as "wars against vandals", that would definitely be unadvisable as often both parties involved in edit wars are equally passionate about building good content, neither should be judged as vandals, they just have conflicting opinions. [edit]- Sorry, but I can't see what you need the tools for at the moment. Keep up the good work you're doing and get some experience in admin areas and I'd be happy to reconsider my opinion in the future. BigDom 10:19, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I don't think you're quite there yet, in terms of experience. Also, "I also want to replace "edit wars" with "war against vandals" doesn't strike me as the right attitude for these sort of matters. f o x 10:37, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose There's simply not enough experience that the user can discern community consensus. I don't think this user is sufficiently cognizant of the community, evidenced in part by the project contribution paucity, the lack of edit count enabling, the very recent copyright concerns on image uploads, and a few deletion template notices that resulted in deletions. None of those are fatal, but given the broader context of these edits, I cannot support. Shadowjams (talk) 10:56, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Moral support. It's great to see an active editor from India whose aim is "improvement of grammar, cohesion, formatting, layout and general presentation and look of an article" - there are lots of India-related articles that need a lot of improvement, and we're under-represented by Gnomes and copy-editors from that part of the world. So keep up the good work, and I look forward to supporting you for adminship when the time is right. -- Boing! said Zebedee 11:07, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose Unfortunately, I don't see why you need the tools. You can do all that right now without any special rights. I'd reccomend at least another year with Wikipedia and more community participation. Keep up the good article work too, that's what we're all here for! --Kraftlos (Talk | Contrib) 11:14, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]- Some very good work there, but I'm not seeing much experience, especially in resolving conflicts, and the answers to Q1 and this edit summary suggest a somewhat combative perspective that could be troublesome when empowered by Admin tools. In the example of the Jeevcy reversion, a user warning (or perhaps a civil note) on that editor's talk page might have been better than a huffy edit summary. Speaking of edit summaries, 5% is quite low. Hang in there—you seem to have the right stuff, just short of experience. / edg ☺ ☭ 10:54, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm not familiar with your work yet, but you mention film. If you are knowledgeable or interested in films, you might like to help out with finding references for the examples given for various film editing techniques. Your work would be much appreciated. You can see about a dozen such articles which I'm working through listed on my talk page. Stephen B Streater (talk) 12:37, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I do like your content contributions, but what's keeping me from supporting is the lack of big experience in the Wikipedia: namespace. I would suggest withdrawing this nomination and come back in a few months after you gain some more experience. NERDYSCIENCEDUDE (✉ message • changes) 13:37, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
