User:Back files

Note: Currently, the only subpages are: User:Back files/Jews in the history of business, created by Wikidemon and last touched in 2008, which underwent AfD in 2008 before being draftified; User:Wikilists/Actors and actresses considered the greatest ever, created by the indefinitely blocked AKR619 (talk · contribs) and last touched in 2009; and User:Wikilists/List of songs with numbers in the title, which has been edited recently by Buf7579 but was created by HappyDog. - Delete An interesting work around from back in the day before the draft namespace existed, and if nobody wanted to claim ownership within their own userspace. At any rate, times have changed, and had the first two been placed in draftspace, they'd be G13 eligible. - No opinion — as creator of a subpage that was probably a copy of a now-deleted article, I have no objection. The subpage is mildly interesting, but the community has decided it is not appropriate content for the encyclopedia so the subpage's existence does not support keeping the parent page. - Wikidemon (talk) 00:05, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Keep I had forgotten about these pages in the years since I created this. A little background. Back in the early days of Wikipedia things were much more flexible as we figured things out and guidelines were being developed. There were many interesting and popular pages that were unsourced, but full of interesting crowd sourced information that didn't quite fit anywhere. An example is User:Wikilists/List of songs with numbers in the title. While this is unsourced, it seemed that the information in it was obvious, not really requiring a source because the guidelines said that only information "likely to be challenged" needed sourcing. The only way to challenge an entry to such a list was to show that no such song actually existed, and doing so was not controversial. People enjoyed contributing to these pages and I believe, back then, they helped get people involved in editing Wikipedia. Then there was a big move to delete all such lists, a move that was very successful. It seemed to me at the time that there could be a way to accommodate crowd-sourced lists, and I hoped that a new namespace or even a new project (Wikilists) could be created to accommodate them. In the meantime, I created these user pages and rescued a few pages from oblivion. The idea did not get traction, so I abandoned it. I still think there is value to crowd-sourced lists that don't fit into the conservative encyclopedic model. Rather than delete all of these page, could they just be moved to my user space? - I could see an argument that User:Wikilists/Actors and actresses considered the greatest ever could have some merit if improved a la List of films considered the worst, and thus could be userified, but I really think User:Back files/Jews in the history of business in particular has to go, for all the reasons in the AfD. Keep and move to draft space (or to Sam's user space or to my own userspace) for expansion into an article. As I said at the original afd, preferably "turn into an actual discussion of the topic, not just a list. I am certainly aware of the possibility of ethnic prejudice for articles of this type, but proper NPOV handling can deal with it. There was a prejudice against trying to write on the topics of "Jews in [whatever]" years ago, when the apparent bias of some of the editors involved made them vulnerable. But we should have by now learned to handle topics of this sort . That an article would be "trouble" is no reason for deletion.
