Unconvinced that the German picture sleeve contextually signifies the song in question and that omitting this sleeve would impact such understanding. Rather I believe it's used aesthetically, which the guideline (MOS:MUSIC#Images and notation) has discouraged/disallowed.
Undeniably, single covers have had mass appeal, and editors have been tempted to use them primarily because they look better and more interesting than a vinyl label from a release, like this free one (File:Your song by elton john US single variant A.png). I can appreciate the branding by the German single cover: an image of the musician himself, the song title, and the musician's name. Nonetheless, unsure why, perceivably, the understanding of the song would be incomplete without the German picture sleeve. George Ho (talk) 03:31, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
Oh, either forgot or didn't realize that the sleeve was derived from the parent album using the same artwork. George Ho (talk) 03:34, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
- There’s nothing aesthetically beautiful about that album cover, but it is the album cover associated with the song. It’s the picture where you can find the collection of songs that were originally released on the “Elton John album“ also the picture used in YouTube and the iTunes Store and if a record store exist anymore that’s the picture on the cover. There is a picture floating around of the lyrics that Bernie Taupin originally wrote that could work. Might as well leave it. I think we’re pole vaulting over anthills. Only in Germany it was, but even those buying the single could've found it similar to the parent album's cover art. It’s the picture where you can find the collection of songs that were originally released on the “Elton John album“ also the picture used in YouTube and the iTunes Store and if a record store exist anymore that’s the picture on the cover.
You favor keeping it just because it's been seen elsewhere (and just because the parent album used it before the German single)? There is a picture floating around of the lyrics that Bernie Taupin originally wrote that could work.
We shouldn't use copyrighted material excessively. We still also have to be very, very cautious about displaying lyrics if a cover art uses them. (e.g. cover art of Look at Me (Geri Halliwell song), which I shrunk in smaller size than maximum size allowed.) George Ho (talk) 14:22, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
