May not be completely a work of the US government since we don't know where the photograph Trump is holding is from, though I've heard it's just from a Twitter/X user. There still might be a fair use rationale for keeping it, though it doesn't seem crucial for the article it's included in. Comment. I'm not conversant in the image use policy and won't leave a !vote, but wanted to note the relevance that Buffs appealed to has shot up in recent days, with the President's official stance now being that the image is unaltered, and that he could bring Abrego Garcia back, but he won't, due to misinformation such as this. Keep, this image is pretty significant since it directly shows Trump promoting falsehoods about Garcia having an "MS-13 tattoo". Though the image should probably be renamed. This was previously part of a multi-file FFD 6 months ago that didn't reach consensus. I'm opening this discussion after this image was revisited at Talk:Tony Soprano#Free image of Tony Soprano?.

My own take is still that this image doesn't meet WP:NFCC#1 for use in the Tony Soprano article, given the images we currently have in c:Category:The Sopranos or could create from HBO's CC-BY promotional videos (1, 2, 3). hinnk (talk) 02:39, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Keep - Per WP:NFCC#1, a non-free image must only be used if no free equivalent is available that serves the same encyclopedic purpose.

While the free image (Tony in a gray suit) is drawn from show footage (though through an HBO marketing video) and is a high-quality still, it does not fully replace the encyclopedic role served by the current non-free image (Tony in a black leather jacket).

The black jacket image portrays Tony Soprano in his everyday demeanor, the more casual, conflicted, emotionally complex figure the audience spends most of the series following. Tony's daily life, straddling both family and mob worlds, defines his character arc far more than his formal appearances. The jacket image reflects that core persona, not simply his moments of power or intimidation, but his internal struggles and human side.

The gray suit image, while professionally shot and well-framed, emphasizes only one narrow aspect of Tony’s character: his role as a formal mob boss. It does not reflect the fullness of the character’s portrayal over the series.

Per WP:NFCC#8, non-free content may be used if its removal would be detrimental to reader understanding. Replacing the jacket image with the suit image would diminish the article’s ability to convey the human complexity of Tony, reducing him to a symbolic figurehead rather than the deeply conflicted, multi-layered character that defines the show.

Furthermore, WP:CONSENSUS was not developed before this second FFD was opened; concerns about the encyclopedic function of the current image were still under active discussion.

For these reasons, the current non-free image continues to satisfy both NFCC #1 and NFCC #8, and should be retained. LJF2019 ^talk 19:01, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Delete: I am unconvinced by LJF's argument above. The CC-BY image depicts the character directly from the episode and is recognizable as such, providing an appropriate illustration for his article. Delete Based on this discussion, it sounds like the uploader was helping some other editors put together biographies of academics, which means it's likely that these images were taken by someone else.
