While it might acceptable for one non-free photo of the Harley J. Earl Trophy to be used for primary identification purposes, there's no need for six non-free photos to be used per WP:NFCC#3a. None of these additional photos are themselves the subject of any sourced critical commentary within the article, so the context required by WP:NFCC#8 is lacking. Moreover, there's nothing about their use that significantly improves the reader's understanding to such a degree that not seeing them would be detrimental to that understanding. Assuming that "File:2015 Daytona 500 Harley J. Earl Trophy.jpg" is being used in the mian infobox because it's the best for indentification purposes, I suggest the other four be deleted unless it clarified how any or all meet NFCC#8 or it's possible that the trophy might be within the pubic domain for some reason. Moreover, if the non-free use of the infobox image is justified then it might be better to use something from the rece organizer's official website which better shows the trophy instead if such a photo can be found. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:17, 15 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free pictograms being used in the main infobox of Freestyle skiing at the 2018 Winter Olympics. The first question is whether these can be considered to be replaceble fair use per WP:FREER. There are plenty of similar winter sports pictograms found in c:Category:Winter Olympics pictograms and even more sports pictograms in c:Category:SVG sports pictograms, so perhaps it's possible that existing free equivalents (like File:Freestyle skiing pictogram.svg) can be used or new ones created per WP:NFCC#1 to serve the same essential encyclopedic purpose as these. Perhaps it's also possible for these to be treated as WP:PD for some reason.

If, however, they meet NFCC#1, then the next question has to do with WP:NFCC#3a and WP:NFG. While it might be acceptable to use each logo for primary identification purposes in stand-alone articles about each event, using a image gallery of five in the main infobox of the parent article for freestyle skiing seems pretty excessive. One image is more than sufficient per NFCC#3a for identification purposes, and it would probably make the most sense to use "File:Freestyle Skiing Aerials, Pyeongchang 2018.svg" since that's the one being used by the organizing committee here on their website. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:16, 15 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Withdraw nomination: All of these files have been uploaded to Commons and the non-free version deleted per WP:F8. Commons files are not subject to WP:NFCCP so there are no longer any non-free content use issues which need to be resolved. This discussion can now be closed. If anyone feels the files still need to be discussed, then that needs to take place on Commons per c:COM:DR. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:26, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
