IQ125 uploaded a Chess.com logo to Commons and to Wikipedia before (Commons DR, Wikipedia file). They were both deleted for licensing reasons. I noticed this via a section at the Chess.com talk page. Since it was straightforward re: NFCC for use in that article, I reuploaded it with a fair use claim at File:Chess.com logo.jpg. IQ125 replaced that fair use claim with {{PD-textlogo}} and some other content. I reverted given the history of deletion and because I don't want a questionable-at-best copyright tag on a file I uploaded. After starting to edit war, I left a message about edit warring/copyright. The message was blanked as usual and IQ125 uploaded this exact copy in order to tag it with his/her preferred tag. This is pretty straightforward disruptive editing in addition to being a clear deletion. To be clear, however, I am basing my judgment of the pd claim on past deletions and that the logo might meet a threshold for creativity beyond words/generic shapes. I'm not certain of that, and that's part of why I'm bringing it here (it seems this is about the only venue to solicit such opinions these days). — Rhododendrites ^talk \\ 14:41, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Keep: User: Rhododendrites is using the incorrect licensing. I corrected the licensing and he began reverting it and edit warring. I reloaded the image with the correct licensing. IQ125 (talk) 14:46, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Delete: Duplicate of File:Chess.com logo.jpg. If Commons did not accept this and since the website appears to have originated within the US, there's no point in trying to license this as {{PD-ineligible-USonly}} and the file does not seem old enough for {{PD-US-no notice}}. The new file seems to have been uploaded as PD simply because the uploader wants to use it in a userbox, which is not allowed under WP:NFCCP. The uploader seems to disagree in a WP:NOBODYCOMPLAINED type of way with the Commons DR based upon c:User talk:Natuur12#Deletion, but Commons issues need to be resolved on Commons and c:COM:DRV may be an option. You shouldn't just essentially upload the same file again locally under a different name and under a PD license just because you want to use it in a particular way on Wikipedia. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:58, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- I asked Natuur12, the admin who deleted the file from Commons, about this and it appears the Commons file was deleted because it was licensed as c:Template:cc-by-sa-3.0; this is very different license from {{PD-logo}}. So, I've asked for opinions as to whether Commons will accept either Wikipedia file as c:Template:PD-textlogo. A non-free version is not needed per WP:NFCC#1 if Commons can accept this as PD, and I will change my !vote to "keep": otherwise, we should treat the file as non-free. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:55, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If No earlier portraits are known to exist, then this can't be an accurate image of a person who died over 2000 years ago. Anyone else could make a different picture of the same person, and that picture would be equally accurate. Therefore, this image fails WP:NFCC#1. Stefan2 (talk) 20:46, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The media is duplicated at Commons, and a recent DR deemed it to be PD-textlogo. I am therefore querying why the local copy needs to be retained (as non-free). ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 20:57, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I checked the duplicate, but don't see how it could qualify as public domain. It is a brand logo, after all. I'm in favor of removing a duplicate, but please ensure the license is correct if you remove the nominated image. --AllOriginalBubs (talk) 18:03, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
