File:Burroughs-Ali'sSmile.ogg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Wadewitz (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Non-free item used in a way that non-free items are generally not permitted (non-free readings of written works).

At two minutes, this is too long to be a non-free sample (30 seconds is the conventionally accepted max), and it makes no sense to cut a 30 second chunk out of a poem (it doesn't work the same way it would a song, I don't think). Sven Manguard Wha? 01:26, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Keep Please read the actual fair use rationale before nominating for deletion. This is much less than 10 percent of the recording and has been used instead of any textual quotation in the article, therefore, extreme care has been taken to restrict the amount of non-free material used in the article. Moreover, the writer specifically released this recording along with the printed version of the book as part of his multimedia experimentation. Is is necessary for understanding how the book was published and conceived of by the author. Finally, it is not a poem but rather a novel and we listen to excerpts from novels all the time. Go to a reading by an author - that is exactly what they do. Wadewitz (talk) 01:31, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Just because someone sticks something in a FUR doesn't mean that it isn't a policy violation. We don't do two minute excepts. Being "specifically released" doesn't matter if it's not released under a free license. We are under no obligation to keep a sample in tact, especially when doing so is a violation of policy. As for your assertion that this was "necessary for understanding how the book was published and conceived of by the author", I contest that. I don't think it adds anything to the understanding of the article at all. Sven Manguard Wha? 02:18, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
We don't have a policy about length - we have a fair use policy which is flexible and determined by the work itself. Moreover, there are sources cited on the fair use page which attest to its necessity in understanding Bourrough's work. You don't have to take my word for it at all - take the expert's word. File:We Will Rock You.ogg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Maglame (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

This sample is decidedly too short and isn't of any of the parts of the song that are... well the notable ones. We don't need a non-free clip of clapping. Note that I would have no issue with a proper 30 second sample that includes something other than clapping, under this file name or another. Sven Manguard Wha? 02:15, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Be aware both of you that the current Governor, as part of a somewhat cosmetic effort to change everything visual, has chosen to use a more regal, less down-to-earth, gold-on-white seal that is more similar to a European, monarchical type seal, rather than a US presidential-type or state gubernatorial-type seal. That should not diminish the importance of the seal of the office of the governor in this file.Pr4ever (talk) 10:13, 19 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
