- As an aside, FFD was your first thought here, not contacting the uploader and asking? Isn't this kind of like shooting first and asking questions later? —Locke Cole • t • c 00:45, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- It's better than the many editors who ask for F4 deletion of images that don't use the proper template as "unsourced", regardless of there being a source in the page not in the proper template, burned into the image, or in the edit/upload summaries. -- 65.92.180.137 (talk) 02:13, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- I guess actually talking to other editors has gone out of vogue. —Locke Cole • t • c 11:45, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- I'd like people to stop using F4-unsourced deletion for anything missing the proper template / badly filled-in template (ie. source is in description line, but not in source line). -- 65.92.180.137 (talk) 05:14, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- Are we sure that the SVG source code isn't copyrightable as computer software? If so, then we need a licence from whoever wrote that source code first. --Stefan2 (talk) 10:45, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Are you trolling? —Locke Cole • t • c 11:44, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- What do you mean? There have been lots of discussions on Commons about whether SVG images are copyrightable as computer programs. Compare with a computer font. The shapes of the letters are ineligible for copyright in the United States (but not necessarily in the United Kingdom or other countries), but the font file is copyrighted as a computer program. See Intellectual property protection of typefaces. --Stefan2 (talk) 12:05, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Commons doesn't respect SVG code licensing anyways. Frequently old SVG files are deleted when new ones are uploaded at a different file name, being derivative of the older version, should exist as part of the edit history, but they don't, and the files are deleted, so are inaccessible. Being GFDL, the attribution should exist. (in particular, several outbreaks of diseases had frequently updated maps, derived from each other, that frequently ended up at varying names, and ended up being deleted) -- 65.92.180.137 (talk) 05:17, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- The SVG was, in this case, machine generated. No humans were harmed in its creation. —Locke Cole • t • c 10:02, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- Comment the quality is usable, especially for galleries and thumbnails articles typically use. -- 65.92.180.137 (talk) 22:38, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- I think that this file is usable and if free should be moved to Commons ... but this filename format - do we know where this is from? We used to have a list awhile back of filename formats and where they come from ... anyone remember what I'm talking about? --B (talk) 13:03, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- If a file has a random file name, then this is suspicious to me. Things like "IMG 1234.JPG" are fine (those are generated by cameras), but things like "20580128051 1ab28bf45e o.jpg" are suspicious (those names are generated by Flickr). This file name might mean that the file comes from some website, but I wouldn't know which one. --Stefan2 (talk) 14:12, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Actually, on further review, is this the old format that Facebook used to use before Timeline? [1] has a lot of things that looks like they could have come from Facebook. Obviously, what would matter is whether the person is uploading something from their own Facebook page or some other person's Facebook page. --B (talk) 19:22, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- By the way, I'm pretty sure it is - I just deleted a couple of images with this format for their name that explicitly gave "Facebook" as the source. So this image came from Facebook - a question is whether it came from the uploader's own Facebook page or somebody else's. --B (talk) 20:02, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- It may be a good idea to review all files with this naming structure, then... --Stefan2 (talk) 20:11, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Yeah ... I don't think we should delete them if that's the only reason there's a question ... it's a pretty common thing to dump all of your photos to Facebook and then work from there. But if it's an obviously professional-quality photo or it out of character with a user's other uploads, we should take action. --B (talk) 20:52, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
